  1. YEAR 6 SATS MEETING 1st April 2014

  2. What are sats? • Checking children’s knowledge, understanding and skills in Reading, Maths and Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar • Writing is Teacher-Assessed • Children will have a combined English level plus a Maths level • SPAG results are published as %.

  3. Levels • Will be passed on to Secondary School along with Teacher Assessments • Papers give a Level of 3-5, children will receive an overall level • Writing Level is teacher assessed and possibly externally moderated. • Level 6 • Reports will show sub-levels at the end of the year

  4. Reading • Levels 3-5: • 3 Texts of ascending difficulty • 60 mins total time • Level 6: • 10 minutes of reading, 50 minute comprehension

  6. SPAG • 2nd Year of Spelling Punctuation and Grammar testing • Testing accurate grammar, e.g. Parts of Speech, subordinate clauses etc. • Level 3-5: • Paper 1 45 minutes of questions • Paper 2 15 minutes spelling (approx.) • Level 6: • 30 mins for an extended task • 20 mins for short questions • 10 mins spelling test (approx)

  8. Maths • Level 3-5 Level 6: • Mental Maths: 2 x 30 minute papers • 10 minutes (calculator allowed • Paper A: for paper B) • 45 minutes • Paper B (no calculator): • 45 minutes

  9.  In a class, 18 of the children are girls. A quarter of the children in the class are boys. Altogether, how many children are there in the class? 2 Marks

  15. Homework club • We will be opening up the ICT suite at lunchtimes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for the children to help with their homework. This will start after the Easter break and continue up until the tests.

  16. Breakfast club • We will be running a Breakfast Club from 8:20am until 8:45am in the mornings of the test week. • We will provide a selection of toast, spreads and drinks for the children to enjoy. It will also give them a chance to relax with their friends and be in a nice calm and unhurried mood before they begin their tests.

  17. How you can help • Keep them calm but focused • Early night and good breakfast • Talk to them about what they are good at and what they need to work on
