  1. Math 5Attributes of 3-D Figures Instructor: Mrs. Tew Turner

  2. In this lesson we will learn about the attributes of 3 dimensional figures.

  3. Aretha bought a hat for $5.95. How much change should she get from $10? Math Warm-up

  4. Aretha bought a hat for $5.95. How much change should she get from $10? $10.00 - $5.95 = $4.05 Math Warm-up - ANSWER

  5. In this lesson we will answer the question: What are the attributes of a geometric solid figure? Print out the sheet for L#53 – Exploring Geometric Solids.

  6. Vocabulary geometric solid- a figure that has three dimensions and takes up space polyhedron – another name for a 3-D figure, which means ‘many faces’

  7. Vocabulary face – the flat sides of a solid edges – connects the faces of solids vertices - corners that connect the corners of a solid

  8. Connecting to Previous Learning You have studied 2-D figures, such as squares, triangles, and circles. In this lesson you will explore 3-D, or solid figures.

  9. Explore 3-D figures around you. Write your observations in your Math Notebook.

  10. Document Camera Get your notebook and pencil ready. Make sure you have the Lesson # and date on your page.

  11. In your Math Notebook Independent Practice Use the worksheet, Exploring Geometric Solids, and this website, to complete your independent practice. Fill out the chart while using the website. http://tinyurl.com/3dy5t5

  12. Lesson Review Geometric solids are 3 dimensional figures that have faces, edges, and vertices.

  13. In your Math Notebook Answer questions 1-3 on your worksheet, Exploring Geometric Solids. Quick Check

  14. In your Math Notebook The number of edges is 2 fewer than the sum of the faces and vertices. Yes, it seems to work for all shapes in the table. Faces + Vertices = Edges + 2 Quick Check - ANSWERS

  15. Good Work with this lesson. Today you learned about the attributes of 3-D figures.
