Reflecting on the Experience • What are the big lessons you have learned from this experience? • e.g., about the school system, about teaching and learning, about your discipline, about yourself • Do you feel more competent in communicating about your discipline? Please explain. • Do you feel more confident in communicating about your discipline? Please explain.

What are the big lessons you have learned from this experience? • Substitute teaching days mean no work being done • Example is one of the best ways to teach • Teachers’ attitudes may elicit or constrain participation • Everyone has their own pace/learning style, need to take into account when teaching • I teach more effectively around the entire room vs. just at the board • Students are smart, not always expected to be (don’t get challenged) • School system can hold kids back (stifled) • Important to think about your questions before you ask them (e.g., how they are phrased) • Need to encourage inquiry in math/science/engineering • Helped to communicate things more simply
