  4. The percentage of aboriginal inmates in some Canadian provinces can be extremely disproportionate. • In some cases over 90%.

  6. Mentally ill offenders are falling through the cracks in Canada's federal prisons, according to a new report from the Office of the Correctional Investigator. 40% have diagnosed mental health issues upon arrival and 60% upon release.

  8. The eye in the sky • Along with the increase in personal technology comes the increase in surveillance cameras. • Law enforcement in relying more and more on these devices. • Gone are the days of invisible crimes. • Civil liberty groups see this as an invasion of privacy.

  11. Canuck fans fight back • On June 15th the city of Vancouver hosted game seven of the Stanley cup playoffs. • The Vancouver Canucks lose 0 – 4 to the Boston Bruins.

  12. In the cities core are over 100,000 fans. A major riot begins shortly following the game. • The cities down town area is severely vandalized and many bystanders are assaulted by vandals. • This was a and deliberate act set out by only a small portion of those involved. • More then 6,000 citizens volunteered the next morning to help shop owners clean up and repair damaged property .

  13. Police arrested several people equipped with gas masks and gasoline bombs confirming that this was an organized riot.

  17. Vancouver’s citizens use mass media to fight crime... you can make a difference 

In just 36 hrs over 1,000,000 photo images and over 1,000 hrs of video tape are sent to the Vancouver police by outraged citizens. • Several rioters were already turning them selves in knowing that their images were caught on camera. • In a previous 1994 Vancouver riot only 6 video recordings were gather by police due to the lack of technology at the time. • In just 17 years mass produced technology might insure that this is Vancouver's last major criminal event.
