National Association of Virtuous Municipalities It’s a network of Local Authorities working for a good and sustainable management of the territories and raising public awareness on Sustainability enacting bestpractices able to generate new recourses and processes regarding new tecnologies,new ways of life and the active participation of citizens

  3. National Association of Virtuous Municipalities Our conviction is that we have to work to protect the Environment, improve the Quality of Life of the citizens and preserve all the Common goods. This has to become more than a slogan! Our Municipalities agreed with the fact that the current model of development is no longer sustainable and we can take another direction

National Association of Virtuous Municipalities • We put at anyone disposal a “TANK OF GOOD PRACTICES” to share the know-how to enact projects • Several municipalities are not able to transform ideas into concrete projects or administrative actions due to a lack of means, time, and know-how. • For that reasons many ambitious projects fail • Hence, the association provides deliberations, • specifications, laws and all that is needed to support the realization of concrete actions

  5. “A virtuous municipality loves its territory and cares for its citizens’ health, future and happiness. A virtuous municipality enacts all the necessary measures in order to spread new awareness and to meet new needs in terms of environmental, urban and social sustainability”.   6. National Association of Virtuous Municipalities was founded in Italy in 2005 by the municipalities of Colorno (Parma) Monsano (Ancona) Melpignano (Lecce) Vezzano Ligure (La Spezia)

  7. National Association of Virtuous Municipalities Now it has 53 members all over the country

The National Association of Virtuous Municipalities • Its activities and social mission are promoted through: • The institutional website http://www.comunivirtuosi.org • The national Award “5 stars Municipality” • Workshop and School for P.A. = “Scuola di AltRamministrazione” • Publications, video and brochures • Training courses for P.A. and S.M.E. • Organization and participation in conferences, seminars, and campaigns on environmental issues and best practices

National Association of Virtuous Municipalities A new Local Authority can join the Association by: • 1 - downloading and filling in the online form on our website (including a presentation of the Municipality and its activities) • 2 – having the memebership right approved by the Executive Board • 3 – approving the Statute of the Association in an official deliberation of the City Council • 4 – paying the annual subscription, varying on the number of inhabitants • 5 – aiming to carry out one or more projects according to the five guidelines in the Manifesto

  10. The 5 guidelines of the Association: Territory management - (zero new constructions option, recovery and re-use of wastelands, participatory planning, bio-architecture, …)

  11. The 5 guidelines of the Association: Municipal ecological footprint - (energy efficiency, green public procurement, organic canteen...)

  12. The 5 guidelines of the Association: Waste - (separate waste collection “door to door”, waste reduction and recovery…)

  13. The 5 guidelines of the Association: Sustainable mobility -(car-sharing, car-pooling, integrated public transport, piedibus …)

  14. The 5 guidelines of the Association: New lifestyles -(self production, short distribution chain, organic and seasonal food, local exchange community, sustainable tourism and hospitality, promoting peace, cohoperation and solidarity, “territories unpacking”, fair trade, ethical finance …)
