Friday, March 20th Itinerary • 4:00 AM Arrive at AWE • 4:30 Depart AWE • 8:00-8:15 First stop Virginia State Line Welcome Center—restroom break • 8:30 Distribute breakfast (Poptarts & Juice box) • 11:30 Arrive at National Archives/Free Time/Have lunch on your own. • 4:15 PM Buses pick everyone up at the Museum of Natural History to take us to the hotel • 4:30 Hotel check in with Miss Lewis. At this time room keys will be distributed to group chaperones! NO STUDENTS WILL HAVE POSSESSION OF ROOM KEYS AT ANYTIME! • 4:30-6:00 Free relax time in hotel room/Prepare for dinner at Hard Rock Café. All students must be chaperoned AT ALL TIMES!! NO EXCEPTIONS (This includes hallway travel to other rooms, being left in the room or anywhere in the hotel)! • 6:00 Meet in hotel lobby for departure to dinner. We will walk there unless it is raining. • 6:30-8:30 EAT! Dinner at Hard Rock Café. • 8:30 Load buses for night time tour of monuments: Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and drive around National Mall back to the hotel. • 9:45 Arrive back at hotel for personal time…shower, TV, etc. • 11:00 LIGHTS OUT!!!

  4. Saturday, March 21st Itinerary • 6:00-7:30 AM RISE AND SHINE! • 7:30-8:30 AM Chaperones check out/turn in keys to Miss Lewis in the lobby/load luggage on buses. You may leave the hotel after you do this. Make sure you are with your designated group. **Free tickets to the Washington Monument and US Mint are available at their ticket booths beginning at 8:30 am on a first come first serve basis. You may want to leave the hotel early to get in line for these tickets.** You will have to eat breakfast on your own, as the hotel’s breakfast is very expensive. There are several fast food restaurants near by within walking distance. • 8:30 AM Depart hotel for Lincoln Memorial drop off (if you have not already left) Most of the museums do not open until 10 am. Early morning is a good time to visit the memorials. FREE TIME. • 1:15 PM Meet back at kiosk eastof the Washington Monument to load buses. • 1:30 PM Depart for Arlington National Cemetery • 2:00 PM Arrive at Arlington National Cemetery. Break into groups to tour. • 3:00 PM Meet at “Tomb of Unknown Soldier” to witness Changing of the Guard. Head back together to visitors’ center to load buses and depart Arlington National Cemetery. • 3:45 PM Depart for Golden Corral. • 5:30 PM Arrive at Golden Corral forbuffet dinner. Userestroomsbefore departure!! • 7:00-7:15 PM Stop at North Carolina State Line Welcome Center for QUICK restroom break. • 10:15 PM Arrive at AWE for PICKUP!  • ***Approximately one hour away from AWE arrival, students will phone their parents to inform them of AWE arrival time. Parents must be waiting at AWE PROMPTLY when buses arrive.

  6. What should I pack? • Pack one bag with clothes and other accessories to put under the bus and one carry-on for the bus with your snacks and lunch. • You may bring handheld electronic games, books, magazines, DVDs (must be rated G), no cell phones for kids, chaperones will have cell phones • Eating is allowed on the bus so you may bring snacks • Please do not send more than $30-$60 with your child to buy merchandise and souvenirs. All activities and food are paid for in advance with the exception of Friday’s lunch and Saturday’s breakfast and lunch. They will have an opportunity to shop in various gift shops. • Pack clothing for Saturday and sleepwear for Friday night. • Pack any accessories/toiletries needed. • Wear comfortable walking shoes • Please pack a jacket or rain gear. • If sending medication with your child be sure to fill out the medication form and send medication in the original bottle. (Students: Yellow; Chaperones: Purple) • Chaperones/Students who do not have the appropriate papers will not be permitted to board the bus. • Each chaperone will be responsible for the forms.

  7. Chaperone Responsibilities • Keep a list of the children in your group (Chaperone Folder) • 2-3 students in each group • Keep children in your presence at all times • Supervise any incidental side trips (first aid, restroom breaks, etc.). Do not permit students in the hallways unsupervised while at the hotel. • Please insist that your charges act in an safe and appropriate manner at all times. • Swimming will NOT be allowed. (This is a Craven County Schools policy) • First aid needs should be directed to AWE staff members. • Any questions or concerns regarding discipline issues should be directed to AWE staff. • Please DO NOT depart from the itinerary.

  8. Reminders • Movies • Jacket or coat • Dress in layers • Appropriate Behavior • Pick up child at approximately 10:00 p.m. Under no circumstances will students be allowed to walk, ride a bike or a scooter home.

  10. Room and Bus Assignments • Please check the chart by the door for your child’s room assignment. (Orange Poster) • There will be 2 buses: Bus 1 and Bus 2. Check the Yellow Poster for your assignments. • If you have any questions or concerns, ask your child’s teacher.

  13. Other Attractions • The White House • The US Capitol • National Archives • Ford’s Theatre/The house where Lincoln died • National Postal Museum • Union Station • US Mint

  14. Arlington National Cemetery • Tomb of the Unknown Soldier • Arlington House • Robert E. Lee Memorial • Gravesites of JFK and RFK **This is an active cemetery. There may be funerals occurring while we are there. It is very important that we show respect by behaving properly while we are there. Do not take electronics off the bus during this tour.

  15. Before you leave: • Turn in your child’s medical release form. • Turn in all chaperone medical release forms. • Sign in and write cell phone numbers on sheet by the door.
