  2. Roles and Responsibilities of Parents and Students: • Gather information from websites • Attend open houses • Parent list • Student list • What is non-negotiable?? • Help child select at least 2-3 schools

  3. Next Steps • Sign up for shadow days • Encourage student to ask important questions • Schedule a meeting with Mrs. Heybach • Develop a timeline/calendar • Prepare for the placement exams Most applications/letters of recommendation go through Mrs. Heybach’s office

  14. Chicago Public School Selection Process Based on 900 points • 300 points 7th grade grades • 300 points 7th grade Iowa scores • 300 points entrance exam • City has been divided into 4 tiers

Non-CPS Student Eligibility Letter Request Form • Fill out form and return to Mrs. Heybach • Forms sent in by Oct 1 will allow students to test on Oct. 26 or Nov 23 without filling out an application first • Test scores will be sent 3 weeks later • Students will be able to apply to schools knowing their total point score • All forms come through Mrs. Heybach

  17. CPS Application Process • Application available online in early Oct. • Use PAPER COPY ONLY • Return to Mrs. Heybach • Receive letter throughout Oct., Nov., Dec. and Jan. with test day and site • Application deadline Dec. 14, 2013

  18. Revised Grading Scale forCPS Report Card ONLY Will use the same grading scale as most Chicago Schools A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 F 0-59

  19. Tests Sent to CPS For eighth grade students who did not participate in ISAT testing as seventh graders or did not receive a score, the Chicago Public Schools is offering a limited testing opportunity. (quote from CPS website) SHS will only send in the results of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills

  20. CPS Selection Process • 30% chosen on merit • 70% chosen from tiers • 25% from each tier • Each student has 2 chances for admission Students are accepted to ONE SCHOOL
