  6. Non Rapid Eye Movement • Stage N1 • Alpha waves to theta waves • Somnolence or drowsy sleep • Loss of some muscle tone • Loss of most conscious awareness Kaitlyn McClung

  7. Non Rapid Eye Movement • Stage N2 • Sleep spindles and K-complexes • Muscle activity measured by EMG decreases • Conscious awareness disappears • 45% to 55% total sleep Kaitlyn McClung

  8. Non Rapid Eye Movement • Stage N3 • Deep or slow wave sleep • Minimum of 20% delta waves • Parasomnias – night terrors, bedwetting, sleepwalking, and sleep-talking Kaitlyn McClung
