  15. Graduate Student E-File • The Graduate School is moving to a paperless official student file, using the new ECM process. The file will be based in SAP, and programs will have access. You will have your own “drawer” where you can store program-level official documents. • The next slide shows the format for the undergraduate student e-file. The Graduate School is currently developing the folders included in the graduate student file.

  25. This survey is intended to help the Graduate School identify areas for future programming. It was not intended as a criticism of what programs are offering – you rightly focus on developing a knowledge base, and research, writing, and communication skills. • We plan to work with the Graduate Student Congress and other student groups to develop programming in areas of greatest interest. The following slide give the “top10” list taken from this survey.

Representative Feedback on MICROTEACHING: • “It was an invaluable experience for me in preparing to teach.  The instructor was well prepared and very knowledgeable and provided a great example of instruction.  Additionally, the fellow TAs-in-training were mature and motivated and enriched the experience for me.”  • “Overall, how would you rate your experience in Microteaching?” • 4=very valuable 3=valuable 2=moderately valuable 1=not very valuable • Mean rating: 3.6 (from 341 TAs completing the evaluation)

Preparing Future Faculty Program In April, signed MOU with Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU) Course enrollment this semester: GS 650 (PFF): 34 GS 610 (College Teaching): 18 GS 640 (Grant Writing): 30 GS 600 (Univ. Curriculum): 9 GS 699 (Teaching Practicum): 10 Total: 101 Dr. Linda Worley will be teaching GS 650 and GS 610 next spring.

Mission is to unify and represent the graduate student body, facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, and promote professional development. • Meets the first Monday of each month. • All currently enrolled graduate students may join.   32. 3 Minute Thesis Competition • This fall we are holding a competition for best “elevator talk” on a doctoral dissertation. We have 4 heats and a final contest with “celebrity” judges in December. Upcoming Discussions this year This year, Graduate Council will be discussing several issues of interest to us all: • Cont. enrollment requirement –master’s • Proposal to drop GRE requirement at Grad School level and move to program level decision • Flexibility in doctoral committee membership • Update rules for electronic teleconference presence for quals and final exams

Other items for DGS’s • Time to degree reports for doctoral students will be posted soon on your “For DGS” logon page • Diversity & scholarships: the Provost has asked us to provide information to the your deans gender/ethnicity/diversity numbers for admissions/enrollment/funding. This is to ensure that we are compliant with the new ruling in the Fisher decision by the Supreme Court.

  41. Dean stepping down • Stepping down June 30, 2014 • To be Dean-in-Residence at the Council of Graduate Schools in D.C. August 2014- 2015 • Provost will focus on graduate education and research in new strategic plan
