  1. This leaflet has been produced to give you information on the subject matter that your child will be covering during this part of the academic year. I hope you all enjoyed your summer holidays and have had a well earned rest. Please feel free to make an appointment to come in and see me if you have any concerns or queries. Mrs Upton NUMERACY In numeracy we will be studying counting, partitioning and calculating. This will involve ordering numbers and using positive and negative numbers in context. We will study the use of greater than and less than symbols and how these can be used to show inequalities. This area will also involve using multiplication and corresponding division facts, as well as understanding the effect of scaling up and down. LITERACY This term we will be studying narrative units using historical settings and imaginary worlds. This will involve comparing texts, studying characters and descriptions in detail. The children will follow these activities up with their own individual stories. We will also be looking at expressive language and the use of adjectives and similes within their work. Comprehension, will also be a occurring on a regular basis. GEOGRAPHY Village settlers will be the theme for this half term. The children will study the characteristics of settlements and use mapwork to obtain evidence. They will also learn how places are connected to each other and that these places are located in response to physical and human features and choices. SCIENCE Our unit this term is moving and growing. Within this unit we will be learning about the main bones in the human skeleton, as well as the three main functions of the human skeleton. The children will be constructing their own investigations into how exercise effects their bodies and how our muscles work in pairs.

  2. HISTORY Not studied this half term ART In art we will be studying journeys. We will be using a range of materials and methods to make pictures representing journeys. They will also be learning to review their own and others work. PSHE In pshe the children will be learning to talk and write about their opinions and explain their views on issues that affect themselves and society. The will also study what makes a healthy lifestyle, including the benefits of exercise and healthy eating, what affects mental health, and how to make informed choices. MUSIC The children will be studying repeated rhythmic patterns in a variety of forms, as well as how these can be linked to spoken phrase. The class will also receive specialist teaching on a set instrument. RE This term we will be studying Judaism. The children will be investigating the main festivals and how they are celebrated. PE Taught by a specialist teacher ICT In ICT we will be studying control and sensing- modelling effects on screen. This will involve entering instructions into a floor and screen turtle. They will study the repeat command and procedures to draw shapes in a variety of forms.
