  1. Tyre basics

  2. Definition of agricultural tyres • Main or drive wheel tyre for driven axles on tractors and self-propelled equipment • Implement tyres for trailers and equipment, mainly on non-driven axles • Front tyres for the front axle of tractors without all-wheel drive • MPT (Multi Purpose Tyres) for fast specialist vehicles, mainly with drive tread pattern Tyres form the link between the vehicle and the road / ground. The following tyres are used in agriculture:

  3. Tyre design (diagrams) Bias Radial

  4. 600/65 R 38 Cross-sectional width (W) 600 = Nominal tyre width [mm] 65 = Ratio of H : W [%] R = Radial design 38 = Rim diameter [inches] Cross-sectionalheight ( H ) Tyre dia. Rim dia. Rim width in inches

  5. Sidewall markings Continental logo Safety reference Load index Speed index New size designation Old size designation Factory specific notes (e.g. week of production) Product line

  6. Identification of load capacity – on the tyre Load and speed index: 125 A7 = 1.650 kg with 35 km/h 122 A8 = 1.500 kg with 40 km/h

  7. Identification of load capacity – at Implement tyres 360/80 – 20 IMP 128 A8 141A8 Rolling Wheel 143% Drive Wheel 100% Difference is 13 LI

  8. Identification of load capacity Former times: PR (Ply Rating)  defines the number of carcass plies and represents the pressure strength Today: LI (Load Index) SS (Speed Symbol)
