Legal basis and operational modalities • Legal basis for financing EDF operations is the Partnership Agreement ACP-EC signed in Cotonou on 23 June 2000 and revised in Luxembourg on 25 June 2005 • It is implemented in close partnership with the Government of Mozambique which is represented by the National Authorizing Officer • and in close cooperation with the responsible Ministries , line agencies and national entities such as : MOPH, ANE, Road Fund, DNA, FIPAG, CFM, DS-MISAU, Ministry of Energy, EDM, FUNAE, TDM

  5. Transport Infrastructure major interventions focused on North-South connection • Zambezi Bridge in Caia overall length 2.3 km – completion 2009 € 25 M (balance of € 65 M total by Italy and Sweden) • N1 Namacurra – Rio Ligonha 375 km – completion 2008 - € 70 M

  6. But also on policy dialogue and institutional capacity to ensure sustainability of the sector • Sector Budget Support to Road Sector 2005-2008 - € 21.5 M Policy dialogue with MOPH , ANE, Road Fund • Small Bridges and Rehabilitation of Rural Roads completion 2008 - € 9 M

  7. In the pipeline • Beira – Machipanda 285 km (2011) • Milange - Mocuba 210 km (2010) • Continuation of SBS in support of PRISE maintenance programme (2009-2013)

Water and Sanitation major interventions • Beira Sanitation project € 52.5 M Rehabilitation of the network and construction of a new waste water treatment plant in Beira Forecast completion 2010 • Maputo Water Supply € 25 M from the Water facility (balance of 70 M covered with EIB, AFD, Netherlands) Forecast completion 2011

  10. Energy • Provision of Photovoltaic systems in rural areas with FUNAE € 6.0 M • 3 Rural electrification projects in Tete, Cabo Delgado and in Sofala with EDM € 17 M from the Energy Facility (balance of 49 million co-financed with SIDA and Danida); • TA to the Ministry of Energy

Health Infrastructureand Telecommunications • Two hospitals and three health centers in Zambezia completed € 3.0 M • 14 Health centers in Zambezia under construction € 3.5 M to be completed end 2008 • Manhica Hospital € 3.0 million in 2009 • Rural network enhancement to the boundary rural zones in the Provinces of Inhambane and Gaza provinces Completion 2008 Cost € 6.5 M

  12. Priorities 2008-2011 • Satisfactory completion of the current interventions • Strategic capital investment for regional integration • Ensuring the sustainability through provision of capacity building and SBS
