  2. About Samford University Founded in 1841 - One of the 100 oldest schools in the nation Relatively small enrollment (4600 students), but 8 schools (Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Arts, Law, Pharmacy, Nursing, Divinity) Heavy Instruction Program – 80-90 classes per semester

Library Instruction Statistics at Your Institutions Use technology such as Excel, SharePoint, Access, Google Calendars, Survey Monkey to track instruction statistics Some institutions still hand count assessment sessions through sign-in sheets, paper calendars Some external surveys for assessment Not much feedback from students, faculty, or librarians

The Past: Library Instruction Statistics at Samford University Instruction Coordinator managed all instruction statistics E-mails and then tallied on an Excel Spreadsheet Strictly numbers Sporadic feedback from librarians, students, and faculty No assessment of information literacy outcomes unless we did a formal survey which only captured a fixed period in time

Value of Academic Libraries Recommendation Create or adopt systems for assessment management Helps higher education educators, including librarians, manage their outcomes Are helpful for documenting progress toward strategic/organizational goals, but their real strength lies in managing learning outcomes assessments Allows multiple librarians to enter assessment data, focus on different student groups (or the same groups over time), and use different assessment methods **By providing a more complete picture of instruction through assessment management tools such as LibAnalytics, we are better able to demonstrate our value Association of College and Research Libraries. You can have 1 or more instances in your system, depending on your subscription. Springshare has excellent online support to walk you through setting up an instance Created a customized instance for instruction sessions. Tailored this instance and an additional instance over the fall and spring semesters *Currently one instance is FREE!

The Present: Library Instruction Statistics at Samford University Using LibAnalytics Multiple Librarians can enter statistics after each instruction session Using two instances (one for instruction statistics and one for a survey) we can provides feedback from librarians, students, and faculty Allows us to monitor our instruction program and ourselves in order to make immediate adjustments and inform long term planning for instruction Assessment of information literacy standards for each instruction session are tracked We can provide a much more detailed picture of our program and demonstrate the value of what we are doing For our own evaluations, we can provide a summary of what we are doing and promote our personal value
