Advisors FAT/ AFAT Friday, November 9 9:40 am FAT #1 Adviser as an Information Resource Location: Palms F Presented by Sabrina DeshnerSeminole State College- Oviedo Campus, Coordinator, Student Life and  Career Development At this session, advisers will discuss the kinds of information they need to have at their disposal to help students. This includes specific institutional policies and traditions, knowledge about FCSSGA’s structure, meetings, and opportunities for involvement, technology resources on campus, and general information that students may need over the course of a year. AFAT #11 Trends and Topics Location: Palms G Presented by Rochelle Finch Indian River State College- Main Campus, Student Activities Coordinator This session is a “wild-card,” as the topics will change depending on the state of State and of the Florida College System. Special topic sessions will be implemented based on the current needs and issues, or has request by the Advisors Association. Presenters may include experts in the field, whom may or may not work in Student Activities. Friday, November 9 10:45 am FAT #4 Working with Students Location: Palms F Presented by Jason Dodge Valencia College, Lake Nona , Student Development This session will examine the many roles advisors play on campus in their interaction with students, including but not limited to: personal counselor, mediator, motivator, and educator. This session will also include a discussion on conflict management, promoting diversity in the SGA, how students use technology, and how students and advisors establish mutual expectations. AFAT #3 Effective Lobbying Location: Palms G Presented by Sue BunticEdison State College Collier Campus, Student Development Specialist Advisors attending this session will learn the role of lobbying in Florida’s legislative process, including state statutes related to lobbying and the role of legislative staffs. Lobbying etiquette will be examined as will Legislative timelines. Lastly, the session will focus on a series of “Best Practices” and will explore how to teach lobbying to SGA membership. Interactive role playing will be used to facilitate learning.
