  1. Song of Solomon God’s Guidebook To Happy Dating and Marriage

  2. Background • The period of courtship is over and now it is time for the wedding and honey moon. Falling in love (1:2 – 3:5) leads to being united in love (3:6 – 5:1). • Just as we can learn important lessons from attending a funeral ceremony (Eccl. 7:2-4), we can also learn important lessons from attending a wedding ceremony (S.S. 3:11)

  3. Outline • Falling in Love (1:1 – 3:5) – Courtship Days (Cultivating Love) • United in love (3:6 – 5:1) – Wedding Day (Consummating Love) • Struggling in Love (5:2 – 7:9) – Marriage Frustration (Caring Love) • Maturing in Love (7:10 – 8:14) – Marriage Faithfulness (Conquering Love)

  4. Wedding and Honeymoon( Song of Solomon 3:6 – 5:1 ) • The Excellence of Marriage (3:6-11) • The Esteem of Marriage (4:1-15) • The Exclusiveness of Marriage (4:16 – 5:1)

  5. Wedding and Honeymoon( Song of Solomon 3:6 – 5:1 ) • The Chorus – Daughters of Jerusalem (3:6-11) • The Bridegroom - Solomon (4:1-15) • The Bride - the Shulamite (4:16) • The Bridegroom - Solomon (5:1)

  6. Lessons Learned • Let the wedding day be a joyous, special, honorable, majestic, and memorable event that demonstrates a new life of lasting commitment to each other (S.S. 3:6-11; Jn. 2:1; Mt. 9:15; 22:1-3) • Let courtship lead to a love that results in the goodness of marriage (S.S. 3:10; 4:10; Gen. 2:18,24; Prov. 18:22; 1 Cor. 7:1-2; 13:3)

  7. Lessons Learned • Let marriage partners offer praise with respect, admiration, and appreciation toward each other (S.S. 4:1-6; Prov. 18:13; 21:9,19; 27:15; Eph. 5:29; Col. 3:19; 1 Pet. 3:6-7) • Let marriage focus on nurturing togetherness and intimacy, not secondary relationships (S.S. 4:7-11; Gen. 2:24; Mt. 19:6)

  8. Lessons Learned • Let sexual intimacy be confined to a godly marriage (S.S. 4:12-16; 5:1; Job 31:1; Prov. 2:17; Mt. 5:27; Heb. 13:4) • Let sexual intimacy be celebrated within (not just confined to) a godly marriage (S.S. 4:16; 5:1; Gen. 2:25; Prov. 5:15-19; 1 Cor. 7:3-5, 33-34)
