  1. Goal Setting

  2. If I could do anything, I would… • Create a list of goals you would like to achieve in your life time. • You will have 5 minutes to create this list. • A minimum of 10 goals (try to come up with more) • Think about… • Like to accomplish • Like to become • Like to improve • Qualities you would like to possess

  3. Goals vs. Dreams • Goals • An object or end that one strives to attain; aim. • Dreams • A fond hope or aspiration.

  4. What are Goals? • What we aspire to and plan to accomplish, achieve or attain in our lives. • Goals are what we want to be when we grow up. • Life is a journey and during each trip we have a destinations.

  5. Why Writing Your Goals is so Important? • Important First step towards achieving them. • Roadmap to your success • Four rules of writing goals down: • Write your goals in the positive • Write your goals out in complete detail • Write in present tense • Re-write your goals

  6. SMART • It is helpful to define your goals in a “SMART” way. • Specific • Measurable • Attainable • Realistic • Time-bound

  7. Specific • Focus our efforts • Clearly define what we are going to do • What are you going to do? • Why is this important to do at this time? • How are you going to do it? • Specific, clear and easy

  8. Measurable • If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. • Measurable progress, so you can see the change occur. • How will you see when you reach your goal? • Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress

  9. Attainable • Begin to figure out ways you can make them come true • Develop attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them. • A goal needs to stretch you slightly so you feel you can do it and it will need a real commitment from you.

  10. Realistic • “do-able” • Devise a plan or a way of getting there which makes the goal realistic. • Too difficult and you set the stage for failure, but too low sends the message that you aren’t very capable. • Set the bar high enough for a satisfying achievement!

  11. Time-bound • Putting an end point on your goal gives you a clear target to work towards • Time must be measurable, attainable and realistic

  12. SMART Goal Timelines • Think of your goals as what you want to be, do, or have • In other words, where you want to go. • Part of setting SMART goals means they are realistic and attainable • Short-term vs. Long-term

  13. Timelines for Goals • Short-term • Can be achieved in an hour, a day, or even a week • Things that can be done in a relatively short amount of time • Long-term • Take longer to achieve • Not only do they require more time, they generally require more effort • Oftentimes, broken down into several short-term goals. • Short-term goals make achieving long-term goals more manageable

  14. If I could do anything, I would… • Categorize your list of goals into a time frame.
