AARC: the Corporation • Incorporated as a not for profit ( 501c6) tax exempt corporation in 1947 in the state of Illinois • Governance by the Board of Directors • Administered by the Executive Office • Holds fiduciary responsibility for the Association • Mission Statement: the American Association for Respiratory Care will continue to be the leading national and international professional association for respiratory care

  3. Mission of the House of Delegates (HOD) • Serve as a representative body of the general membership and of the affiliate societies. • Participate in the establishment of the goals and objectives of the Association (AARC) • Participate in the governance of the Association.

House Rules • Complete List -- HOD Policy Manual – Pages 27-29 • c.aarc.org/state_society/aarc_hod/ • ID badges admit members to the HOD meetings and must be worn while attending the AARC’s annual business meeting. • While the Speaker/designee occupy the chair, no member shall address the House or make any motion until after recognition by the Speaker. • When any member is about to speak, or to deliver any matter to the House, the member shall, with all due respect, address the Speaker, state their name and their Chartered Affiliate, and confine themselves strictly to the point of debate. • While the Speaker is putting any question to the floor, the member shall remain in their seat and shall not hold any private discussions. • No delegation shall speak more than twice on the same motion nor longer than 5 minutes at any one time.

AffiliateBestPracticeCommittee Co-Chairs: Charity Clark (KS) and Marybeth Emmerth (WV) • Identifystateaffiliatesthathave best practicesinareas of interestsuch asmembership,communications,communityservice, legislativeactivities,studentrecruitmentorothertopics. • Produce up to 3 presentations on these best practices for each HOD meeting • Compile the “BIG LIST & To Do List” for each HOD meeting • Solicit information from surveys for future topics

Chartered Affiliate/Special Recognition Committee Co-Chairs: Lynette Harms (IL) and Chuck Menders (WV) • Provides assistance to the Chartered Affiliates as described • Thecommitteehastheresponsibilityfor overseeing and evaluating applicationsfortheAARCSummitAward. • TheSummitAwardispresentedtothechartered affiliate thathasdocumentedtheir effortsanddiligence towardexcellenceinpromotingprofessionalism,the importanceoftherespiratorycareprofessionandallthe successes achievedthroughthehardworkofthe charteredaffiliate. • The committee solicits nominations from the chartered Affiliates for AARC Life and Honorary Membership to recommend one nomination for each category to the President’s council • The committee recommends individuals for special recognition awards

DelegateAssistanceCommittee Co-Chairs:Kari Woodruff (CO) andGary Smith (IA) • Reviewsandactonrequestsfromstate societiesfordelegate travelfundsaccordingto HODapprovedpolicy. • Thepurposeof thesefundsistoprovide financialassistancefordelegate traveltostate societiesthathavebudgetaryconstraintsand/or financialdifficultytoensurethatthey are representedateachHODmeeting.

ElectionsCommittee Co-Chairs: Shelly Klein (MN) and Suzi Westmoreland (SC) • Primaryfunctionisto coordinateHousenominations and elections. • Nominationsfor officersarereceivedat the summermeetingonly. Nominationsfor committeemembersareacceptedatboth meetings. • Electionof officersand committeemembersfor theBylaws and AARCElectionsCommitteesare heldeachfall. • Officersaredeterminedby a majorityvote and • committeemembersby a pluralityvote.

OrientationCommittee Co-Chairs: Sheryle Barrett (FL) and Mary Turley (CT) • Provides new Delegates with information prior to meetings, including welcome letter, access to the House Policy Manual and Delegate Guide, orientation expectations, and any other pertinent information. • Obtains photos of all delegates for House Directory and submits to House Liaison. • Plans and hosts a meet and greet prior to the House meeting • Plans and conducts a House Orientation Session before each meeting. Submits verification of attendance to AARC House Liaison, Speaker, and Secretary. • Works with Progress and Transition Committee to conduct post meeting evaluation of the Orientation Session by new Delegates and identify opportunities for improvement.

Policy and Guide CommitteeCo-chairs: Joe Goss (NJ) and Darcy O’Brien-Genrich (NE) • Goal is to refine the House Policy Manual and Delegate Guide into clear, concise and effective procedural and guidance documents. • Work with P and T Committee to obtain updated historical overview of HOD activities to include in the Delegate Guide • Collaborate with other committees regarding policies and procedures supporting HOD activities

Progress&TransitionCommittee Chair: Claire Aloan (NY) • Evaluatethe outcomeand effectivenessof Housemeetingsinconjunction with theOrientationCommittee, using a House Effectiveness survey and posting the results for HOD members. • Updates historical records and providesa bridgebetweenthe old and thenew,oftenofferingrecommendationsto facilitatethat process.

ResolutionsCommittee Co-Chairs: Brent Kenney (MO) and Bob DeLorme (GA) • Processes potential HOD resolutions for consideration per HOD policy prior to each meeting. • Reviews resolutionsto insure that they are clear andcontainadequate informationfor responsibleconsiderationby thebody; consults with authors/sponsors if needed to improve or meet information requirements. • Communicates HOD resolutions for consideration and solicits review and discussion in advance of each meeting.

StudentMentorship CommitteeCo-Chairs: Julie Jackson (IA)Amanda Albee (ME) • Thecommittee focusisstudentparticipation in HODmeetings, including inviting students to participate, communicating overview and expectations prior to attendance, and coordinating student attendance and mentoring with affiliates. • Committee conducts post meeting assessments and collects data for student registry. • Theshort-term goalofstudentmentorship isan introductiontoAARCactivitiesandassociation withcurrentAARCleadership.Long-termgoalisstimulate studentstobecomeinvolvedatstateandnationallevels.

Volunteerism and Mentoring Committee • Co-Chairs: Sheila Guidry (LA) and • Jennifer Anderson (TX) • Serves as a resource to the AARC for community service programs, ideas and contact information • Promotes awareness of community service involvement. • Works with AARC HOD Liaison for identified volunteer projects worthy of recognition in professional media. • Collaborates with AARC International Mission Roundtable to promote activities and volunteer involvement. • Work with Chartered Affiliate/Special Recognition to identify candidates for the Bill Lamb Award
