  1. SSERCA-Related HiringResearch Projects HPC Summit

  2. SSERCA-Related Hiring HPC Summit • FSU • 1 (Donny Shrum) • UF • 2 new hires (1 biology specific) • 1 added, funded mostly by CMS (storage) • 1 to be hired this summer (Web development) • USF • 1 (interviewing now)

  3. Sunshine Grid: Research Projects HPC Summit • CMS experiment at CERN • UF, FSU (+ FIT, FIU) • Cryo Electron Microscopy (CryoEM) • FSU and UF • Coupled Ocean Atmosphere • USF and FSU

  4. Update on Projects HPC Summit • PIs of the 3 projects have already made significant $$ commitments to HPC centers • UF: $370K (CMS experiment) • FSU: $30K+ (Cryo-EM) $70K (Ocean-atmosphere) • USF: $80K (Ocean-atmosphere)

  5. Linking Campus Resources HPC Summit • OSG organizes a weekly telephone call (Thurs 11AM) to support “campus grid” efforts. • Most participants are individual campuses • We have not participated yet because of lack of manpower, but will now be able to (Yu Fu) • UF is lead institution on ExTENCI effort • Wide-area Lustre: data sharing • FSU will also take part in data sharing tests

  6. HPC Summit Summary of Sunshine Grid Science Projects

  7. CMS Experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider HPC Summit

  8. A Proton-Proton CollisionWill Record ~109 collisions/year HPC Summit

  9. CMS Computing HPC Summit • ~10s PB of collision data collected per year • Similar amount of simulated data • Worldwide distributed computing resources • US part supported by Open Science Grid • UF is a “Tier-2” university site • Data repository for physics analyses • Supports FSU, FIT, FIU

  10. Korea Russia FermiLab UK U Florida Caltech UCSD FIT FSU FIU CMS Experiment Global Grid • >2000 physicists, 60 countries • 10s of Petabytes/yr • CERN / Outside = 10-20% CMS Experiment Online System CERN Computer Center 300 MB/s Tier 0 10-40 Gb/s Tier 1 >10 Gb/s OSG Tier 2 2.5-10 Gb/s Tier 3 Physics caches PCs HPC Summit
