What happens atKindergarten Screening? • Children are assessed in the area of motor skills, speech and language, general concepts, cognitive (listening, following directions), self-help skills, and social and behavioral skills • Vision screening (hearing later) • Assessors: kindergarten teachers, school psychologists, health aid. • Parents will be sent screening results along with suggestions for continued skill development for kindergarten.

  4. Kindergarten Screening • Approximately ONE WEEK: notification in the mail on how your child did with the kindergarten screening. • In June: notification (mail) which session: • AM & PM • All Day Kindergarten (tuition-based) • In August: classroom teachers assigned; district website lists bus schedules for the school year. (www.bbhcsd.org) • Make sure the school and the Transportation Dept. know of any child care plans you have for your child other than the home address. “Meet the Teacher” evening will be announced in Mr. Martin’s End-of-the-Year Letter

PSO – Parent School Organization • Hilton Elementary School (and the district) PSO changed the name “PTA” to PSO effective November 11, 2002. • Mission Statement: The PSO is to provide educational opportunities for our students that go beyond what the school district provides and to promote open communication among parents, administration, teachers and staff. • Membership (Dues $5.00 individual/$10 family) • Each individual school has a PSO • Also District PSO oversees all unit PSO’s and runs programs • Sponsors District Calendar/Planner/Directory • PSO sponsors educational and social activities for Hilton families. • PSO sponsors several annual Fundraisers. Profits generated from the fundraisers are used to run programs and purchase educational gifts for the school. • Monthly Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday “ISH” of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the art room.

Rick Smith Jr. Show) • Gifts and Goals Committee • Hilton Family Bingo Night • Hilton Habitat and Courtyards • Parent Volunteer Coordinators (Committees/Lunch & Recess, Room Parents) • Right to Read Week/One Book One School support • School beautification projects • Science Discovery Zones (3 times year) • School Art Show • Staff Appreciation Week Activities • AND SO MUCH MORE!!!!!!!

  11. Hilton Habitat • Outdoor land lab “born” in 1997 and is an on-going Hilton Elementary PSO project. • Outdoor land lab for all grades/students • PSO sponsored, maintained, and enhanced • Recognized nationally and locally • Recipient of grants • Volunteer opportunities • Habitat Hikers

  12. PLAYGROUND PROJECT • Coming soon this spring: an inclusive, modern playground built through the support of the Hilton community and PSO!
