  7. Lesson 1 1. Introduction – Course Overview This module provides an overview of the LOG 210 course, the course contents, schedule, workbook, practical exercises, continuous learning points and student assessment. • Provide the ILS/Supportability Manager with information on various analysis tools that are available. • MARS-V practical exercise. • Student requirements for successful completion. Acquisition Logistics Competencies: None

  8. Lesson 2 2. Life Cycle Logistics Roadmap This module provides an overview of the acquisition life cycle and the supportability analyses that are required. • Describe the acquisition life cycle. • Identify key logistics activities in each phase of the life cycle. • Identify and discuss the supportability analyses necessary to obtain required outputs and documents. Demonstration and use of the USAF’s Acquisition & Sustainment Toolkit Acquisition Logistics Competencies: Supportability and Sustainment Requirements Designing for Support/Supportability Supportability Analyses and Design Tradeoffs

  9. Lesson 3 3. Logistics Supportability Planning This module provides an introduction to the development of logistics program management documentation necessary to meet ILS/Supportability requirements. • Develop a supportability strategy for MARS-V (case study). • Prepare required program management documentation required for development and fielding. Demonstration and use of the LOGSA’s Systems Planning and Requirements System (SYSPARS) Acquisition Logistics Competencies: Supportability and Sustainment Requirements Integrated Logistics Support Elements Integrated Product and Processes Development

  10. Lesson 4 4. Level of Repair Analysis This module provides an introduction to the basic theory and performance of level of repair analysis (LORA) and when it used in the acquisition process. • Determine when an item will replaced, repaired or discarded based on economic and non-economic considerations. • Review various automated tools for conducting LORAs. Demonstration and use of the LOGSA’s Computer Optimization Model for Predicting and Analyzing Support Structures (COMPASS) Acquisition Logistics Competencies: Predictive Modeling and Simulation Designing for Support/Supportability Cost Estimating

  11. Lesson 5 5. Life Cycle Cost Analysis This module provides an introduction of system life cycle costs and provides an analytical approach for preparing a life cycle cost estimate for a defense acquisition program. • Identify the components of life cycle costs. • Review various automated cost estimating tools. • Calculate a life cycle cost estimate using sample data and an automated cost estimating tool. Demonstration and use of the LOGSA’s Cost Analysis Strategy Assessment (CASA) Acquisition Logistics Competencies: Predictive Modeling and Simulation Cost Estimating Life Cycle Cost Management

  12. Lesson 6 6. Supportability Analysis Record/Documentation This module provides an introduction to the collection, evaluation, review, integration and dissemination of acquisition logistics data. • Review logistics product data and its sources. • Define military and industry standards for collection and exchange of logistics data. • Review various automated tools for acquisition logistics documentation. Demonstration and use of the LOGSA’s PowerLOG-J. Acquisition Logistics Competencies: Supportability Analysis and Design Tradeoffs Reliability, Maintainability and Supportability (RM&S) Design for Support/Supportability

  13. Lesson 7 7. Sustainment Supportability Analysis This module provides an introduction to analyzing and improving supportability of fielded weapon systems. • Review sources of sustainment data and collection methods. • Identify potential logistics “trouble spots” and cost drivers. • Demonstrate automated decision support tools for analyzing and improving supportability of fielded weapon systems. Demonstration and use of the LOGSA’s Post Fielding Support Analysis (PFSA) Acquisition Logistics Competencies: Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Elements Life Cycle Cost Management Risk Management

  14. Issues & Roadmap • Current LOG 210 course structure under review: • Original LOGSA/DAU MOA signed in September 2006 established curriculum development partnership. • “Final” LOG 201 course is heavily “tool-based” and requires LOGSA SME support as classroom instructors. DAU faculty supports course and classroom administration. • Original intent of partnership was to transition instructor responsibilities to DAU faculty. LOGSA has indicated their intentions to reduce their support after FY09. • Next step? • Same course – DAU faculty instructors • Revised course – DAU faculty instructors, reduced emphasis on tools • “New” course – possibly a “Supportability Analysis” course that would integrate supportability theory with practical application without an emphasis on specific tools.

  16. LOG 210 Student Survey Comments (verbatim) • DAU classes have many Army and AF examples, policy, and database applications. Add more NAVSEA and NAVAIR examples, policy, and database applications. Bring in Navy guest speakers to DAU Huntsville. • please reduce the amount of data entry. i was too busy trying to input the data in the exercise to really grasp the tool itself. • This course should be added to the required courses for certification at Level II for Life Cycle Logistics. • Everything was useful. Program Managers have PMT 250. Now Logisticians have LOG 210. • inputing the data while trying to show us the tools, i think that was a waste of time. I'd rather have the instructor show it step, by step. • loved "hands on" training with supportability tools thru practical exercises • I thought the first hour block on Life-Cycle Cost Analysis was a little to basic for me. That said, I don't know what pre-reqs there are (if any) to attend this course, so I'm not sure if this might be first-time information for other students. • Lenghten the class, Initiate shared discussions among class participants. More often than not, students have a lot to bring to the table of understanding, years of experience but sometimes need a push to elicit desired results.
