  2. Workshop Overview • Introductions • Why Cosmology and CPE? • A Cosmology Sampler • Five Cosmological Shifts • The Expanding Self and The Awareness V • Supervisory Applications

  3. Opening Meditation

  4. 2. Why Cosmology and CPE?

  5. E. O. WilsonWe exist in a bizarre combination of Stone Age emotions, medieval beliefs, and godlike technology.

  6. Our Shifting Context • Ecological Imperative: a transformation of consciousness is required if we are to survive on this planet. • Science and spirituality are increasingly joining efforts: brain science, evolutionary biology, physics, consciousness studies, human potential movement • Interfaith activity is also growing exponentially: Meditation, yoga, interfaith dialogue, chat rooms • There is a massive (internet, bookstores, Oprah) movement underway of “main street mysticism”

  7. 3. A Cosmology Sampler

  8. St. Thomas Aquinas A mistake about creation will lead to a mistake about God.

  9. John Muir When we tug at a single thing in nature, we find it attached to the rest of the world.

  10. Albert Einstein A human being is part of the whole, called by us “universe,” a part limited in time and space. . . . This delusion is a prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

  11. Michael Dowd’s Cosmology

  12. The New Cosmology

  13. The Universe: 13.8 Billion Years Old

  14. If the Universe was 100 Yrs Old • The earth was born when the Universe was 70 years old • The first plants arrived on earth when Universe was 91 • Dinosaurs appeared in the 98th year • Homo sapiens entered the story at the beginning of the 365th day of the Universe’s 99th year of existence

  15. 4. Five Cosmological Shifts

  16. Reflection - What confusing, unpleasant or scary things were you told about the following topics when you were a child? Universe: God: People: Why you are here:

  17. Five Cosmological Shifts

  18. 3 Core Messages 1. The universe is magical • Mind, matter and everything is One • The universe is evolving as a Divine, loving intentionality, and it is conspiring at all times for our well-being 2. I am divinely powerful • The universe is abundant and generous, and so am I • I am a spiritual being having a human experience 3. Perception is Reality • My perception creates my reality and shapes my experience

  19. Shift #1

  20. Albert Einstein A human being is part of the whole, called by us “universe,” a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest—a kind of delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.

  21. Max Planck, Nobel Prize Winner As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about atoms this much: There is no matter as such. All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.

  22. Energy and the Mind of God

  23. Shift #2

  24. Albert Einstein I think the most important question facing humanity is, “Is the Universe a friendly place?”

  25. Eben Alexander, Neurosurgeon Three messages from the other side of life • You are loved and cherished, dearly, forever. • You have nothing to fear. • There is nothing you can do wrong.

  26. Reflection Reflect on Einstein’s Friendly Universe and Alexander’s Three Messages: • How is these perspectives resonate with and/or differ from the religious perspectives you were raised with? • What feelings are evoked in you when you hold these thoughts?

  27. Evolution = • The universe conspiring for our well-being • The unfolding of radical grace

  28. Shift #3

  29. The Power of Scarcity

  30. From No to Yes • Limbic versus Pre-frontal • Drains versus Radiators • Love is the ultimate “Yes” State

  31. From Fear to Gratitude

  32. Abundance Thinking

  33. William H. Murray This may sound too simple, but is great in consequence. Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.

  34. William H. Murray (Cont.) A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets: Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!

  35. Howard Thurman Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

  36. Brilliance and Genius All but the greatest among us have disowned the brilliance we house within ourselves and buried the creative giant that is our true nature. Robin Sharma

  37. Shift #4

  38. The Tools of Spiritual Becoming • Our emotional guidance system • Desires: what makes us come alive today? • Dreams and hopes • Divine guidance

  39. Deepak Chopra When you live your life with an appreciation of coincidences and their meanings, you connect with the underlying field of infinite possibilities. This is a state I call synchrodestiny . . . . Synchrodestiny requires gaining access to a deep place within yourself, while at the same time awakening to the intricate dance of coincidence out in the physical world. . . .The coincidences or little miracles that happen every day of your life are hints that the universe has much bigger plans for you than you ever dreamed of for yourself.

  40. Patanjali: When I have a great dream: • All my thoughts break their bonds • My mind transcends all limitations • My consciousness expands in all directions • I enter a whole new world with whole new possibilities • Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive • I discover myself to be a greater person by far then I ever dreamed myself to be

  41. Spirituality as Power Source

  42. Shift #5

  43. Reflection - Your regular thoughts about: • Friends: • The World: • Work: • Myself: • Success: • Money:

  44. How Perception/Reality is Built Beliefs Thoughts Words Actions MY REALITY Beliefs Thoughts Words

  45. The Power and Possibility of Thought

  46. Reflection - Your life-affirming thoughts about: • Friends: • The World: • Work: • Myself: • Success: • Money:

  47. Mike Dooley Life is waiting for you--waiting for you to give it direction, give it meaning, and provide just a spark. When acting in line with your dreams, you invoke life's inviolate principles, you set into motion an array of unseen forces, and you unleash the magic behind the illusions of time and space.
