  1. Consult the users & partners (synergies, improvements, future projects, …) Architecture of the GMES Ground Segment Preparation of Sentinel-3 Preparation of Earth Observation Envelope Programme-3 work plan (30 Meuro for application development and demonstration 2008-2012) Objective of Consultation

  2. Consult the users/partners (synergies, improvements, future projects, …) Users present: UKMetOffice, DMI, Ifremer, NOAA, GDAC, IOCCG, IOCCP, MARCOAST, … 240(?) Medspiration registered Users: need for a systematic survey Now is time to start broadening and strengthening the GlobColour user community Synergies identified: DDS, formats, metadata, … GlobColour can learn from Medspiration: system architecture, outreach to the user community, GHROC-PP ?? Successful demonstration for Medspiration Successful development for GlobColour Conclusion of Consultation

  3. Future Ensure Medspiration continuity until MCS (Jan 2008) Improve SSES Push forward development of European reanalysis component (GlobSeason). New user requirements, e.g. PAR,Case 2, warming depth, Secchi disk, to be monitored and new (useful) products to be included as research provides suitable validated methods Utility of GlobCOLOUR merged nLw for PFTs Intercomparison with other merging methods New dissemination methods (Google-Earth) Rigour, uniformity and honesty in error statistics – need to develop an operational & centralised quality control approach? Development of multi-disciplinary integrated (SST + OC + …) data sets for model assimilation, seasonal forecasting, etc. Need to prepare for a probable gap between ENVISAT and Sentinel-3 data supply, and how to manage the impact of this gap on the users. Conclusion of Consultation

  4. Architecture of the GMES Ground Segment GMES is a multimission GS – still in definition Need to ensure Medspiration and GlobColour requirements are supported by GMES GS Pre 2012:: ESA/ENVISAT + TPM + GDAC L2P + OC GDAC??? After 2012:: + Sentinels L2P should be GS products L4 rationalisation Archive dimensioned for reprocessing/reanalysis - reanalysis requirements need to be fully explored – e.g. operational users may not want reanalyses. Conclusion of Consultation

  5. Preparation of Sentinel-3 Sentinel-3 SRR just started Medspiration & GlobCOLOUR provide building blocks to ensure full exploitation of Sentinel-3. Continue to promote the development of applications which can support new operational systems. Conclusion of Consultation

  6. Preparation of Earth Observation Envelope Programme-3 (30 Meuro for application development and demonstration 2008-2012) Downstream applications of Medspiration/GlobColour Medspiration II? GlobWave? GlobSeason? Glob…? Conclusion of Consultation 2

  7. Organisation Both consortia did actively participate to the joint Medspiration-GlobColour UCM David has been excellent ACRI/LOV and the “ladies” were very efficient Conclusion of Consultation

  8. Thank you for you participation in what has been an excellent meeting.
