  1. Do You Imitate Paul? Text: I Cor. 11:1

  2. Intro Jesus told His disciples if they truly wanted to obey Him, they needed to take up their crosses daily (deny self) and follow Him (Lk. 9:23) – Our example (I Pet. 2:21-25) We can see one following Christ’s footsteps in the example of Paul: I Cor. 11:1 1. Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ. Think of all the areas in life that are affected by imitating Paul! (as he imitated Christ) Do you imitate Paul? Do You Imitate Paul?

  3. Do you imitate Paul: In Identifying AND Denouncing False Religion? Destroyed the Denominational concept – I Cor. 1:10-13 (Mt. 15:13-14: Jesus’ example) Emphasized unity – Eph. 4:1-3: Gave doctrine of unity – Eph. 4:4-6 Eph. 4:4-6 4. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; 5. one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6. one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. Part of Jesus’ Plan for mankind: ONE CHURCH! (Acts 20:28; Col. 1:18) All others outside of God’s plan are false religions! Do You Imitate Paul?

  4. Do you imitate Paul: In Observing the Lord’s Supper? • Revealed elements and their meaning – I Cor. 11:23-26 • The bread = Christ’s broken body • The cup (fruit of the vine – Mt. 26:29) = New Covenant in His blood • Taught how we must observe – I Cor. 11:26-30 • Saints are to eat of it “in remembrance” of Christ and His sacrifice. • Self-examination is important (II Cor. 13:5) and a part of the Lord’s Supper. It is a communion (KJV, NKJ), sharing (NAS), participation (ESV) with Christ – I Cor. 10:16 I Cor. 10:16 16. Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ? Do You Imitate Paul?

  5. Do you imitate Paul: In Observing the Lord’s Supper? Paul observed it weekly – Acts 20:6-7 Acts 20:6-7 6. We sailed from Philippi after the days of Unleavened Bread, and came to them at Troas within five days; and there we stayed seven days. 7. On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight. Saints observe the Lord’s memorial weekly till He comes again! (I Cor. 11:26) Many treat the Lord’s Supper as common and eat it when they want (Quarterly, Good Friday services, Holidays, etc.) Paul showed the proper way and reverence we are to observe it in! Do You Imitate Paul?

  6. Do you imitate Paul: In Praying Regularly? • Paul went to “places of prayer” – Acts 16:13 (Lk. 6:12) • Paul went regularly – Acts 16:16 (Lk. 5:16: Jesus’ example) Paul instructed brethren to pray at all times and for other saints - Eph. 6:18; I Thess. 5:17 Paul asked for prayer on his behalf – Eph. 6:19-20; Col. 4:2-4 Eph. 6:18 18. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, Do you “devote yourself to prayer” and pray as often as Paul did? Do You Imitate Paul?

  7. Do you imitate Paul: In Opposing False Teachers? • Paul & Peter – Gal. 2:11-14 (Gal. 2:9; I Cor. 15:9) • Paul opposed Peter to his face in public for his sin of hypocrisy • No one above rebuke – I Cor. 4:6 (Not even an apostle!) • I Tim. 5:19-20: Not even elders (Though must be treated with respect). • Mt. 23: Jesus’ example • How did Paul treat false teachers? • Marked (Rom. 16:17) • Exposed (Eph. 5:11; II Tim. 2:15-18) • Rebuked (Tit. 1:13) II Tim. 3:16-17 16. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17. so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. Do you study to be able to defend the truth as Paul did? Do You Imitate Paul?

  8. Do you imitate Paul: In Practicing Self-Control? Paul practiced it in such a way as to win and not be discredited! – I Cor. 9:27 (Heb. 4:15: Jesus) • How well do you exercise self-control? • Tongue – Eph. 4:29; Js. 3:2-8 • Thoughts – Prov. 23:7; Mk. 7:21-23; II Cor. 10:5 • Temper – Eph. 4:26, 31; Gal. 5:19-20 • Body – I Cor. 6:13, 18, 20 Our words and deeds need to be tempered within the authority of Christ! Col. 3:17 17. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Do you follow Paul’s example in self-control? Do You Imitate Paul?

  9. Conclusion There are many more areas of our lives that we need to follow Paul as he was following Christ! • Do you imitate Paul in: • Giving? (I Cor. 16:1-2; II Cor. 9:6-7) • Teaching your children? (Eph. 6:4; Mt. 6:33) • Studying God’s word? (I Tim. 4:12-16; II Tim. 2:15; II Pet. 1:5-6; 3:18) • Being baptized to wash away your sins? (Acts 9:18; 22:16; Gal. 3:27) • Suffering if need be for the gospel? (II Cor. 11:23-33) Paul knew what it was to take up his cross and follow after Jesus daily (Lk. 9:23) He says to follow his example in so far as he followed Christ (I Cor. 11:1) Do you imitate Paul’s example in following Jesus? Do You Imitate Paul?

  10. “What Must I Do To Be Saved?” Hear The Gospel (Jn. 5:24; Rom. 10:17) Believe In Christ (Jn. 3:16-18; Jn. 8:24) Repent Of Sins (Lk. 13:35; Acts 2:38) Confess Christ (Mt. 10:32; Rom. 10:10) Be Baptized (Mk. 16:16; Acts 22:16) Remain Faithful (Jn. 8:31; Rev. 2:10) For The Erring Child: Repent (Acts 8:22), Confess (I Jn. 1:9), Pray (Acts 8:22)
