  6. Why TN/2? • TN/2 was normed in 2000 • The norm group includes students whose Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) specify testing accommodations. • TN/2 will facilitate alignment of instruction to the Maryland School Assessment (MSA).

  7. Transition from CTBS to TN/2 Common Features of the Two Assessments • Multiple choice items • Same subtests and objectives • Similar test administration times • Recording of students’ responses directly onto the test booklet • Use of national percentile ranks to • report performances

  14. Grades 3, 4 and 5 What is The Maryland School Assessment (MSA)? The MSA is a test of reading, math and, eventually, science achievement This test provides educators, parents, and the public valuable information about student, school, school system, and state performance.

Facts About The MSA • The test meets the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. • The test is administered annually to students in • grades 3 through 8. • Scores from the March administration are expected to • be available by late summer. • The test includes both multiple choice and brief constructed response (BCR) items.

MSA Scores Norm Referenced Criterion - Referenced C-R items provide proficiency scores expressed as Basic, Proficient, or Advanced National Percentile Ranks How well a student has mastered the reading and math content specified in the Maryland Content Standards How well a student performed in reading and math compared to his/her peers nationally
