  4. Marketing standards All catch must be weighed and registered • As long as those conditions are fulfilled, there are not many general rules or regulations governing the first sale of fish ● The vessel owner decides whether to sell the catch directly to a fish processing company or auction it Auction rules • Act No 79/2005 and Regulation No 646/2007 • Exports / Auctions on foreign markets

  5. Marketing standards First sale • It is quite common that the ownership of the vessel and the processing company is the same ● Minimum commercial sizes, freshness or other characteristics • No rules, but the seller must give a correct description of the fish being put up for auction, and the auction market must ensure that this information is accessible to the buyer.

  6. Marketing standards Relations between buyers and sellers • The principle of free trade applies. The prices of all species of fresh marine catch, non-marketable fish and fish waste are determined in free contracts between buyers and sellers or through sales at fish auction markets. • Act No 13/1998 on the Directorate of Fresh Fish Wages Settlement Prices provides for supervision, aimed at ensuring that the correct price is used as a basis in determining the wages of vessel operators and crew members, when catch is sold to parties connected with the fishing vessel operator. This does not involve a minimum price for transactions with catch, but rather a reference price for the settlement of wages.
