  7. Costs of the 1990s model • Typical cost of the old ISDN – around £600/councillor/year • Desk, chair, PC with printer – a further £600 one off • H&S adviser visit • Installation visit • Maintenance calls

Costs of the 21st century model • Provision of laptop/tablet/smartphone – up to £300 one-off • 3G connection for one device – modelling from £7.50/month or £80/year • Provision of wireless router, with configuration and installation – around £150 • We save – broadband costs • furniture costs • home visits for H&S and maintenance

  9. Benefits to councillors More important than any cost reductions • Lightweight, portable equipment • Work anywhere, anytime • Access previous paper documents online through CMIS
