Categories and Deadlines Exceptional Conference- Funding up to €100,000 Conference – Funding up to €50,000 Conference Bid – Funding up to €6,000 Workshop – Funding up to €10,000 Deadlines Applications may not be submitted more than a year in advance apart from Exceptional Conference applications Exceptional Conference and Conference applications six months in advance of the event Conference Bid and Workshop applications three months in advance of the event

Purpose • Facilitate the hosting of conferences and workshops based on excellent • scientific research that has potential economic and societal impact • Help Irish-based researchers and research bodies contribute to and lead in • scientific debate of both national and international importance • Encourage industry-informed research and academic-industrial partnerships • to build competitive advantage for Ireland • Enable researchers at all stages of their careers to build a network of • scientific contacts and collaborations SFI are also aware of the wider economic and societal benefits of hosting high quality international research events in Ireland.

  4. Eligibility • Research topics of timely importance in all areas covered by SFI’s legal remit • Events whose primary focus is instructional, or those with a large teaching or • training course component, e.g. Summer Schools are not eligible • Events whose primary focus is based around the setting of research agendas • i.e. research policy are not eligible • The applicant must be an academic staff member of an eligible research body • (not necessarily a SFI award holder)

  5. Categories Conference: sizeable events with significant international and national participation 6 months in advance, €50,000. Workshop: smaller in scope and size than a conference 3 months in advance, €10,000 Conference Bids: some of the cost of a bid to host an important international conference 3 months in advance, €6,000 Exceptional Conference: sizeable events (1,000+ attendees) with significant international and national participation. Prestigious, competitively bid for, planned a number of years in advance. International society sponsorship is required. 6 months in advance , €100,000 Public Awareness Events- SFI Discover

Showcase excellent Irish research science, technology, engineering and maths National participation, involvement of all relevant groups International participation, quality of the speakers Potential for future collaborations and grant applications e.g. Horizon 2020 Early career researchers Dissemination Plans Significant non-SFI sponsorship Industry support (particularly financial) Designated SFI lectures/prizes Clear budget justification

  7. Points to Note Deadlines must be adhered to Declined applications may not be resubmitted for review, even under another category Minimum of 8 weeks processing time Competitive Process Final decision rests with SFI SFI must be acknowledged appropriately Final report must be submitted to SFI
