  2. Welcome • Kenya is very popular because of the animals you can see. Kenya is also very beautiful. There are colorful clothing and jewelry in some stores there. Kenyans often grow things in the fields.

  3. Map with Key • This is Kenya. • The capital of Kenya is Nairobi. • The places were there are giraffes on the map are were animals live. • Tanzania is South of Kenya. • Ethiopia is North of Kenya. • Uganda is West of Kenya. • Somalia is East of Kenya. • The Indian Ocean touches Kenya.

  4. Government • The President is “Mwai Kibaki”.The Prime Minister is “Raila Odinga”. • The head of Government in Kenya is the President. • Some people are unhappy with the current government. They will get to vote for a new President in 2013.

History/Culture • Some of the foods in Kenya are “Beef Stew”, “Samosas”, “Irio”, “Maandazi”, and “Plantains in coconut milk”! • Most families, including grandparents, live together in the same house. Many families build their houses out of mud and bricks. • The Masai herd animals and live in the fields with their cows and goats.

  6. EconomicsNatural Resources/Products • The main resources in Kenya are tea leaves and water. Kenyans can get these things in a field and a stream. The children get water from streams in pails and buckets. The adults get the tea leaves from the fields that grow. Also from a field open for anyone. Kenyans also grow white corn, then they crush it up into light flour. Kenyans can catch fish from lakes and then cook them into dishes to eat. In Kenya men dance for Holidays.

Fact File and Fun Facts • In Kenya they celebrate Independence Day on my birthday, December 12. • Soccer is Kenya’s most popular sport. • One of the worlds largest sellers of cut flowers is Kenya. • Kenya’s official name is “Republic of Kenya”. • The capital of Kenya is Nairobi. • Kenya is almost the size of Texas. • The national anthem of Kenya is “Wimbo wa Taifa”. • Language is Kiswahili. • Money is called Kenya Shillings.

Extra Government • The person who makes laws for Kenya is the 94 members of the Senate. • Just like in America you have to be 18 and older to vote. • There are 47 countries all split up and they have their own Government. • There are 290 members of the National Assembly, also known as the Bunge. • In Kenya people can make their country more democratic.
