  2. Repaso del presente Conjuga los siguientes verbos en el presente del indicativo: • Hablar • Comer • Vivir • Querer • Hacer • Salir

Usos del subjuntivo – (overview) • Used to say that one person influences the action of another • Used to say what should happen • Used to mention an action or outcome that has not yet happened and that is not real, true, or certain • Used when talking about doubt • Used in impersonal expressions

  4. El subjuntivo • Sentences where the subjunctive is used have two clauses (main and dependent), each with a different subject. • The two clauses are connected with the word “que”

  5. Hints: • Repeat the following chant: “yo” quita la “o” añade “e” o “a” • Use the following formula to help you: S1 + V1 + que + S2 + V2

  8. Stem-changing verbs • -ar and –er stem-changing verbs in the indicative have the same stem changes in the shape of a boot. • Cerrar (e  ie) yo  cierro, cierr- , + e = que yo cierre que yo • Volver (o  ue) yo vuelvo, vuelv-, + a = que yo vuelva que yo

  9. Stem-changing verbs • -ir stem-changing verbs in the subjunctive have changes in all the forms • Pedir (e  i) • Dormir (o  ue <boot>, o u <nosotros/vosotros>) • Divertirse (e ie <boot>, e i <nosotros/vosotros>)

  10. Stem-changing verbs Try the following stem-changing verbs in your notebook. Then, conjugate them on the board and check your work. -ar: pensar, contar (shape of a boot) -er: volver, entender (shape of a boot) -ir: sentir, pedir, morir (all the forms) (nosotros and vosotros –ir verbs: ei = i ; eie = i ; oue = u)
