EMPLOYER LEAD • The NSAN is totally focussed to meet employer demand and needs, as employers it is “your” Academy • Driven by an employer Shadow Board which is Chaired by David Bonsar Executive Director of BNFL. • Board members from: BNG; AMEC; Doosan Babcock; British Energy; Fluor; SERCO; NDA; BNFL; MoD; TUC; UKAEA; Centronic; Cogent • Employer involvement, drive and financial support essential to success, the following companies have made a financial commitment to date: • BNFL • NDA • Washington Group International • SERCO • UKAEA

SCOPE • It has been agreed by the Shadow Board that the National Skills Academy for Nuclear will embrace the whole of the nuclear sector (excluding health) i.e.: • Power generation • De-commissioning and clean up • Waste Management • Fuel processing • Defence • New Build • Focus on vocational and technical skills development and training i.e. up to and including Foundation Degrees, looking to develop FD conversion year to Honours Degree level, enabling clearly defined links to HE and Higher Level skills development.

ROLE AND FUNCTION • Employer led provision – meeting current and future demands • Ensure the right qualifications are delivered, working with Cogent to address gaps e.g.: • NVQ in decommissioning and Radiation Protection • Foundation Degree Nuclear Materials Technology • Safety Case – ensure right provision to L4 • Excellent quality of provision • Standardisation of core roles and training to match: • Flexibility in the work force • Transfer of skills • Cost effective delivery of skills and training

ROLE AND FUNCTION cont’ • Nuclear Skills Passport – • Phase 1 Unescorted Worker Access • Phase 2 Capture all training and development • Nuclear Credit Framework record all nuclear training and skills development to feed into the Skills Passport • Apprenticeships with a Nuclear Specialism • Train the trainers and Worker Trainer • Placement scheme where people can spend time in different sub-sectors of the industry. • Promotion of the sector – further development and roll out of the Energy Foresight Programme • Foundation Degree - Honours Degree conversion

  11. NSAN IN THE REGIONS • Good progress already in the Northwest with the launch of “The Nuclear Academy NW” on Friday 09/03/07 this is the first delivery arm of the NSAN to be developed. Northwest Steering group being established. • Southwest employers event held 27/02/07, Bridgwater College appointed as SW Hub, Steering Group being developed, Ken Powers appointed as Chair. • Southeast employers event 24/04/07, Hastings College agreed as SE Hub, Pat Upson Enritec appointed as Chair • Project Manager appointed in Scotland • Working Group established in Wales
