ESRI Campus-wide Site License • The ESRI Campus-wide Site License allows Yale University to use ESRI software throughout the organization for teaching, research, or administrative* purposes for a single annual fee. This fee includes: • software maintenance; • access to virtual campus courses authored by ESRI; • user conference passes; • technical support services. * Some third-party software may not be used for administrative purposes due to royalty issues

The ESRI Higher Education Site License • Unlimited Teaching/Research/Administrative Installations & Licensing of: • Desktop GIS Software & ESRI Extensions • Server GIS Software & ESRI Extensions (including Mobile) • Engine Developer Kit and other software for development (ESRI Developer Network (EDN) for Education) • ArcLogistics 9.3 (without Data) • MapObjects Windows and Java Editions

The ESRI Higher Education Site License • Under the ESRI Site License, Desktop & Server Software Products may be installed on: • Yale-owned equipment • Faculty & Full-time Staff Personal Equipment • NOT Part-time Staff (Research/Teaching Assistants, etc…) • For non-commercial research/teaching/administrative use only.

  6. The ESRI Higher Education Site License • Unlimited Teaching/Research (No Administrative Uses are permitted. ) Installations & Licensing of: • ArcPad & ArcPad Studio – Mobile GIS for Windows & Windows Mobile Devices • Data included with ArcLogistics(Tele Atlas North America and European Data)

The ESRI Higher Education Site License • Unlimited Copies of Student 1-year license for use by Students • Unlimited access to a large number of ESRI Authored Virtual Campus Courses • 5complimentary ESRI User Conference passes. • Technical Support, administered through the Site License Admin, and the Yale Map Department.

The Yale Map Department Installation Batch File • Unattended, complete installation of ArcGIS Suite • Requires Yale Network Authentication (NETID Login on machine or VPN) • Installs the ArcInfo Desktop Floating License version which requires contact with the maps.library.yale.edu license server to function • Batch file registers license server information • Requires ~2 hours over University Network Connections, more if installing from off-campus

Basic System Requirements for the ArcGIS Suite • Platforms: • Microsoft Window 7 (32 bit, 64 bit) • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher (32 bit, 64 bit) • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Service packs are optional.) (32 bit, 64 bit) • Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (32 bit, 64 bit) • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32 bit, 64 bit) • Additional Software Requirements • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 or equivalent • Microsoft XML Core Services • Internet Explorer

  12. The Yale Map Department Installation Batch File • Some Post-Installation setup required for DeepFreeze or User permission restricted workstations: • Enable extensions • Set Relative paths for Data Sources • Adjust the User Interface • Establish permanent connections to drives

ArcEditor Single-Use • Allows ‘roaming’ independent of the maps.library.yale.edu license server • Some functionality restricted • Relatively simple upgrade process • Ideal for: • Laptops • Laptops & Workstations for field data collection • ArcGIS Installations on Faculty/Staff personal equipment • Workstations with restrictions on network connectivity (HIPAA, etc…) • Users with Admin Role can switch between Floating and Single-Use

Other Strongly Suggested Applications… Google Earth/Google Earth Pro • Required to access Yale Map Department Sanborn and Topo Map footprint indices • Contact stacey.maples@yale.edu for Pro Licensing info (requires workaround to enable Pro license for all users) • Increasingly utilized for distribution/viewing of geographic content.

Other Strongly Suggested Applications… ArcExplorer 900 • ESRI Geographic Browser & Presentation Software • Access ready-to-use ArcGIS Online basemaps and layers. • Fuse local data with map services to create custom maps. • Add photos, reports, videos, and other. • Perform spatial analysis (e.g., visibility, modeling, proximity search).

Other Strongly Suggested Applications… DNR Garmin • Free GPS/GIS Management software maintained by the Minnesota Dept of Natural Resources. • Integrates well with ArcGIS Suite • Supports/controls Garmin GPS Units directly and any NMEA compliant devices • Instruction Support through Yale Map Department

Other Strongly Suggested Applications… ExpressView Browser Plug-in • ability to view MrSID and JPEG 2000 images natively in standard Web browsers. • The Yale Map Department distributes it’s high-resolution map scans using the JPEG 2000 format. • This plug-in allows users to Pan, Zoom and Subset images from the Map Department’s JPEG 2000 collection. • Windows & OSX Versions available

  20. Other Suggested Applications… • Trimble Planning Software – GPS Survey Planning Software (Free) • OSGEO4w Package – Open Source GEO for Windows Package • Notepad++ - Just a darn good text editor

  21. OSX Installation • ESRI - No known future plans to support OSX directly • Currently assembling and testing various configurations • Two basic options: • Dual Boot System using Boot Camp • Virtualization using: • VMWare Fusion • Parallels Desktop • VirtualBox • Parallels and VMware can run an existing Boot Camp partition to obtain advantages of both options (VirtualBox?)
