  1. REFILL AMBASSADORS Refill your bottle. Anytime, anywhere Hella Hekkelman & Richard Clevett refillambassadors@gmail.com +31640953435

  2. Refill Ambassadors The increasing consumption of single-use PET bottles is a global problem. We believe refilling becomes the norm once water refill points are trustworthy, widely available and easy to find. We want to: Build a platform for refill station infrastructure within Europe Combine all data for European refill points in one app (Refill.org.uk ) Increase refill stations: motivate small and business holders to establish new refill stations. Innovation

  3. Refill Ambassadors Design involves two aspects: the refill stations and their accessibility. Refill Stations: The water stations vary from tap water, to a simple filtering system, to a more luxury machine with a cooling function. The preferred choice depends on the target area’s climate, and willingness of business owners to invest. The design of the water refill stations is essential. It has to be attractive, trustworthy, intuitive and durable. Accessibility: Refill Ambassadors wants users to easily find a refill station. Therefore we want to map each point, to locate your nearest refill point. Nowadays around 12 different refill apps already exist. We believe that through collaboration, the refill movement can flourish. We therefore want to add new refill points to the existing refill app called ‘Refill’. This app is free to download, in English, and makes use of your GPS. Design methods: brainstorming, braindrawing, brainwriting Use of design thinking methodologies Participatory process to validate ideas (focus groups, surveys,...) Participatory design, co-design Prototyping methods Design approach

  4. Refill Ambassadors We focus on travellers (people-on-the-go, holidaymakers, day-trippers) who carry around a reusable water container a Refill Station is a service offered by businesses (ho(s)tells, restaurants, cafés, shops and tourist attractions) that you can easily find on your phone using GPS That provides a clean drinking water refill, either free or for a small fee, unlike buying single-use plastic water bottles Our service is cheaper and has a lower carbon footprint Relation to the urbanscape

  5. Refill Ambassadors Scaling up prospects We want to start small and dream big. What we need is a behavioural change: making a change yourself is doable, changing the way ‘things go’ is hard. Luckily we see a number of trends that are in favour: Plastic waste awareness and ocean clean-up campaigns are headline news. NGO’s and small businesses are leading the way in changing the mind-set of the masses. Refill station pilots in Bali, Canada and the U.K. are successful. SHORT-TERM (0-1 year) The Netherlands – Situation: tap water is safe, reliable and high quality. People buy bottled water out of convenience and lack of knowledge. MID-TERM (6 months – 5 years) Mediterranean Europe – Making the jump from the Netherlands to Spain and neighbouring countries. Situation: tap water is potable but not preferred due its taste and image. LONG-TERM (6- 10 years) Ultimately, our goal is to have refill stations across entire Europe, all located on the same Refill app.
