  1. Geothermal Power Market in the Asia-Pacific to 2020 - South-East Asia Key Region for Geothermal Growth

  2. Asia-Pacific will Maintain its Leadership Position in Global Geothermal Market Currently, the Asia-Pacific is global leader in terms of geothermal power generation and will continue to be the same. With increasing emphasis on emission reductions and renewable power generation, many countries in the region are investing heavily in developing geothermal resources. Geothermal power generating units, are base load plants and generate cheap power, thus, they are good replacement for conventional sources of power. Indonesia Plans to Become Global Leader in Geothermal Power Industry Indonesia has a huge potential for geothermal power, accounting for as high as 40% of global resources. Currently, the major source of power generation in Indonesia has been oil and it is among the biggest emitters of green house gases in the region. As a result, to reduce their emission levels, the Indonesian government has come up with an ambitious plan to generate approximately 10,000 MW of geothermal power by 2025. In order to fulfill this plan there are many projects in the development and planning phase in the country. The cumulative installed capacity and generation of geothermal power of Indonesia was 570 MW and 2,649 GWh respectively in 2000. The capacity reached 1,169 MW in 2009, showing a CAGR of 8.3% and generation

  3. increased to 7,593 MW in 2009 showing a CAGR of 12.4% for the period 2000–2009. The country wants to increase its capacity by more than 4,000 MW by 2014. GBI Research expects the capacity to reach around 6,500 MW by 2020 at a CAGR of around 17% and generation to reach 42,185 GWh in 2020 at a CAGR of around 17%. Government Grants and Policies will Support Geothermal Development in Australia Up until now, Australia has been an insignificant country in terms of geothermal power generation, as it does not have a single large scale geothermal plant. In future however, the Australian government aims to harness its geothermal reserves and to this end it has announced many policies and grants for the development of these resources. The Australian government has announced grants of $50m under its Geothermal Drilling Program and $235m for the development of various renewable energy projects. In addition, many investments have been made in technological development and it is considered to be a pioneer of Hot Rock (HR) or Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) technology.

  4. Pacific Countries to Harness Untapped Geothermal Potential in the Next Decade Pacific countries, being placed along the Pacific Ring of Fire, have huge geothermal reserves. They are among the top countries in the world for geothermal power generation. However, this potential is still largely untapped. With the advancement of technology for drilling and power generation, these countries are planning to further harness their geothermal resources. The Pacific countries are going to be the main regions for geothermal development in the coming years. GBI Research, a leading business intelligence provider, has released its latest research, “Geothermal Power Market in the Asia-Pacific to 2020 – South-East Asia Key Region for Geothermal Growth”. The report gives an in-depth analysis of the geothermal industry in the Asia-Pacific, covering the major countries currently engaged in geothermal power production in the region, namely the Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand, Japan and Australia. The research analyzes the current market scenario, upcoming trends, major challenges and key drivers of the geothermal industry. The report covers cumulative installed capacity and generation forecasts from the geothermal resources for all the above mentioned countries - up to 2020. It also provides a detailed analysis of existing and future geothermal potential, major projects and the regulatory

  5. framework of the mentioned countries. The report also includes an overview of the geothermal industry in the Asia-Pacific, major deals and the competitive landscape. This research study provides information on technological analysis, key research and development trends, key industry metrics such as growth drivers and restraints, cost analysis and profiles of major international geothermal organizations. This report is built using data and information sourced from proprietary databases, primary and secondary research, interviews with industry participants and in-house analysis by GBI Research’s team of industry experts.
