  3. Undertake a significant public image campaign in your community to communicate what Rotary is. Review the club’s current promotional and public outreach pieces Gain media coverage of an action-oriented club service project. Establish a club website or enhance your club’s existing site Use electronic club newsletter & publicize it to non-Rotarians and local media. Use social networking websites to publicize your club’s activities Emphasize vocational service Hold at least one fellowship, networking, or collaborative event that is open to the public. Define your club’s signature activity and promote it to the public. District Conference

Multi District PR Grant for 2012-2013 • The Rotary International Board of Directors supports PR Grants designed to assist districts to reach the general public by promoting Rotary and improving Rotary’s public image. • Grants are awarded to districts worldwide on a competitive basis.   6. Multi District PR Grant Details • PR Multi District Grant application was signed and approved by 4 District Governors and sent to RI Headquarters in March 2012. The 4 districts received: $60,000.00 August 16, 2014 District Conference

PR Grant Roll Out Plan • Asking Club Presidents to: • Inform all of their club members with the broadcast schedule – mid January to mid February • Encourage the Club members to see the Humanity In Motion V Public Service Announcement. • Support with local campaign in Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and your newsletter and website. August 16, 2014 District Conference

Additional activities – Pick 3 • Have a PR professional review the club’s current promotional and public outreach pieces to ensure that they’re appealing and relevant to the general public – I am happy to help but you may have someone in your club or cluster as well. • Gain media coverage of an action-oriented club service project - media relationship/press releases • Establish a club website or enhance your club’s existing site to make it more appealing to the general public – showcase your club and invite guests • Start an electronic club newsletter and publicize it to non-Rotarians and local media.- Friends of Rotary District Conference

Additional activities – Pick 3 • Use social networking tools to publicize your club’s activities, enhance public image, and recruit prospective members-  one keystroke, multiple platforms • Emphasize vocational service by achieving at least one of the following: Personal invitations • Start a career counseling or vocational training program, and invite non-Rotarian participants from the community to attend. • Organize a discussion or group workshop on maintaining high ethical standards in the workplace, and invite local non-Rotarian business leaders to attend. • Organize at least one professional networking event in which club members can meet other local professionals and introduce them to Rotary. • Sponsor a career day in which club members bring young people to their places of business to inform them about career opportunities.   12. Additional activities – Pick 3 • Hold at least one fellowship, networking, or collaborative event that is open to the public. Use the opportunity to introduce non-Rotarians to Rotary. Community event – pancake breakfast, barbecue, kids fair • Define your club’s signature activity (the one you’d like your club to be known for in the community) and promote it to the public. Use all of your tools and maybe even buy an ad  District Conference

Getting Rotary’s image to the public • Appoint a Public Relations Chair? • Develop a committee and a plan • You need some skills, writing, photography, FB, Twitter, web • Identify key activities worth promoting • Meet the local media, build a relationship • Print – Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Regional, SNAP • Radio – Local Stations • TV – Local, National, Cable • Create a media day…invite a media speaker • Develop regular press releases with photos to promote events, activities District Conference
