It’s not fair/ok for what’s out there to be used for real.” • UW-WW students complain about shutdown of a party • News – denied scholarships/jobs • Students view their “fun and social” activities as “theirs” and should be viewed that way

In e.Marketer.com March 2006 • Oct 2005 facebook.com – 2,200 college campuses, 70% of members log on every day (Marketwatch) • Facebook.com and mySpace.com were the 7th and 9th most-visited sites among university users in Dec 2005 (27% of entire university audience) (Mediz Metrix – Jan 2006) • Dec 2005, university users spent an average of 185 minutes on facebook.com and 54 minutes on myspace.com

  14. Blogs – ECAR qualitative interviews • Very little expressed interest/use • Used for online diary – used more when having a bad day • Used for a travel journal to communicate with folks back home • Blogs and IM improve their typing skill

  16. K-12 experience • netday.org – Annual survey K-12 and teachers • Fall 2005 – 185k students • 65% Gr 6-12 use IM every day • 78% of Srs use IM every day
