  3. Saimaa University of Applied Sciences Saimaa UAS is maintainedby Saimaan ammattikorkeakoulu Oy, a limitedcompanyownedby the South Karelia Educational Federation of Municipalities. The federation includesninemembermunicipalities: Imatra, Lappeenranta, Lemi, Luumäki, Parikkala, Rautjärvi, Ruokolahti, Savitaipale and Taipalsaari. Saimaa University of Applied Sciences has 262 full-timeemployees (on 31 Dec 2010). In addition, ithasapproximately 100 part-timefee-paidteachers. Of full-timeemploymentcontracts, 84% arepermanent. Saimaan ammattikorkeakoulu Oy's (Saimaa University of Applied Sciences Ltd) operationalincomewas EUR 23.3 million in 2010. The balancesheettotalwas EUR 35.9 million (on 31 Dec 2010).

  9. Skinnarila Campus – vision beingfulfilled In Lappeenranta, the Saimaa UAS operationsmoved to the joint campus in Skinnarila in the autumn 2011 with Lappeenranta University of Technology. The campus is now the largesthigher-education campus in South-Eastern Finland . The goal of the campus project is to: • form a largerconcentration of competence • developsharedlearningenvironments and researchlaboratoryinfrastructure of the twohigher-educationinstitutions • improve the quality and efficiency of supportservices. The Campus forms a sharedenvironment for the UAS students of business administration, technology and healthcare and social services and the universitystudents of technology and economics.

Lappeenranta Academic Library • The jointresearchlibrary of Saimaa UAS and LUT wasopened in August 2011. • The Academic Library hasoperations on twocampuses, Skinnarila and Linnala in Imatra. • The libraryserves the fields of technology, economics and business administration, social services, healthcaresciences, tourism and culture, with approximately 150,000 titles. • The electroniccollectionincludes 180 databases, eBooks, magazines and referencebooks. The newspaperroomsubscribes to approximately 900 journals. • The number of employees is 22, and the library is visitedby 1,000 visitors per day. • The Lappeenranta Academic Library is also open to the general public.

R&D and innovationacitivites The research development and innovation activities of Saimaa UAS: • serve local business and industry and public sector organisations • diversify education • foster the UAS's contacts with society • support the transition that business and industry and the public sector in the Lappeenranta and Imatra region are undergoing • support the growth and internationalisation of small and medium-size businesses. The volume of Saimaa UAS's RDI was EUR 2.9 million in 2010.
