  1. That's correct! Global warming refers to the long-term increase in Earth's average surface temperature, primarily due to the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O), act like a blanket, trapping heat from the sun and preventing it from escaping back into space. This phenomenon is often referred to as the greenhouse effect. Human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, and natural gas) for energy, industrial processes, and deforestation, have significantly increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This enhanced greenhouse effect is causing the Earth's temperature to rise, leading to various impacts on the environment, ecosystems, and human societies. The consequences of global warming include rising global temperatures, melting ice caps and glaciers, sea-level rise, more frequent and intense heatwaves, changes in precipitation patterns, increased frequency of extreme weather events (such as hurricanes and droughts), and shifts in ecosystems and biodiversity. Mitigating global warming requires efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to renewable and cleaner energy sources, improve energy efficiency, promote sustainable land use practices, and adapt to the changes already occurring. International cooperation and collective action are crucial in addressing the challenges posed by global warming and minimizing its impacts on a global scale.
