The Founder of Georgia . Marguerite Danker May 9 th 2012. James Oglethorpe. I was happily born on Dec. 22, 1696 I was a general for Britain for as long as I can remember I traveled on a ship with other people I was leading I did claim the land I had seen for dear King George II.

James Oglethorpe • I was happily born on Dec. 22, 1696 • I was a general for Britain for as long as I can remember • I traveled on a ship with other people I was leading • I did claim the land I had seen for dear King George II. • We called it “Georgia” • In 1728, two years before conceiving the Georgia colony, I lead a Lawmaking committee on penal improvement

  4. Hardships Owning Land • Land ownership was limited to fifty acres • A grant that included a town lotand a lot more was rare • Self-sustaining colonists were able to gain more grants • Such grants were structured so it was hard to get them

  5. Retirement/Dying • In 1785, Ivisited John Adams • That is the 1st US minister of plenipotentiary to the Court of St. James's • I also retired in 1785 • I died in England • Sadly then, after my great life I… died

  6. Fabulous Facts about Meeeeee!!! • I was also a general in the army • When I was searching for land I with my crew 88 days & 88 nights • We rode on the St. Ann • The colony was not only for King George ll it was named after him too!
