  1. Webquest: Choosing your battles

  2. Introduction The first Khaleesi was born in Brazil last week. Do you know what Khaleesi means? Khaleesi means Queen in Dothraki, a made up language of the Mongol hordes, a people from the fantasy serie Games of Thrones. I´m sure you have heard of it. Here are the best scenes of season one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYi4ob82ETU

  3. Goals The goal of this webquest is to put in practice most of things in have learnt not only in this year but in all your three years of high school. So, this work will not only require your skills in English but also in what you have decided to especialize in, which is the creation of online games. So this will be an activity that will last at least six months to happen. And the rest of the year, you can play the game and improve it, if necessary. The task will be divided in the following steps:

  4. Task Division • First of all, you will be divided in five groups. Each group will represent a house or a clan. You will have to think about everything relate it to your clan. This means: who are the king and queen and who are their sons and daughters, the symbol that represents your house, the history of your clan, if your group will have a particular language and the motto of your clan. Think as many details as you can. • After doing this, each group will post into a blog the particularities of your clan because the other groups will need to know them. • The last task is actually build the game online, together, the whole class. And then, you play the game and have fun!

  5. Resources • You cannot copy Games of Thrones, but create a game similar to it. You can research on those sites: http://www.hbo.com/game-of-thrones#/ http://www.gameofthronesbr.com/ http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/basics101/tp/Ancient-People.htm http://www.history.com/topics/middle-ages

  6. Evaluation • The evaluation will be half for English and half for Computer science (the resources of computer science will be sent to you by the teacher of this subject) • In the beginning of the project, we will ask you which criteria would you think you would have to be evaluated for. • We also intent to work with the concepts of creativity, the effort put in both parts of the project, the willingness to research, and group work. • The final evaluation will be a self evaluation where the student will reflect on his/her contributions to the project.

  7. Conclusion Now you will have already created a killer online game, that you can actually put it for other people to play with. Was this activity fun? Now you can think of doing this using different times and civilizations, like the Vikings, for example. Or the Greek civilization, or the Egyptians.

  8. Credits • This webquest was created by the student Mayra Lopes Tavares do Couto for the subject “Prática de ensinoemLínguaInglesa I: o uso de tecnologia” • A special thanks to Professor Janaína Cardoso • This webquest was created having as a tarket the senior students of the high school Nave (NúcleoAvançadoemEducação)/ ColégioEstadual José Lopes Leite.
