Background • Ministry of Statistics and Program implementation(MOS&PI) is responsible for accurate collection of statistical data on various items in the country • Ministry has signed MOU with DOP for collection of data from rural areas • On engagement of DOP, the ministry was able to bring out Rural Consumer Price Index and All India Consumer Price Index for the first time in February 2011 • The Department is collecting data regularly every month and submitting to MOS&PI

  3. Data collection mechanism • DOP collects data of prices paid by consumers in rural areas on selected consumer goods • Data is collected from about 1181 villages every month • BPM collects the data from the local market on the week fixed for the identified village every month on 185 to 292 commodities • An online portal is available to upload collected data

  6. Operator data entry page Operator selects the item and accesses the data entry page to enter data collected

  7. Interface for the Postmaster Data entered by operator has to be verified and updated by Postmaster
