  3. Program History • No official collaboration with Freshmen Seminar Courses (Run by The Center for Student Success) • Very few seminar instructors introduced the library to their courses TurningPoint • URACE Grants • New faculty/librarians

  4. Logistics • 40 iPad minis • By in from Center for Student Success • In-Class or Outside Class (Flexible) • Used Socrative App and LibGuides

  7. What is it? A smart student response system that empowers teachers by engaging their classrooms with a series of educational exercises and games. Runs on tablets, smartphones and laptops. Cost? Currently Free (Free for over a year, but they say it won’t be free forever. Assessment? Student responses are visually represented for multiple choice, true/false and short answer and Auto-graded. Teachers may download reports.

  8. Compatibility? Any Internet Browser, mix of smartphones, tablets and computers. Is there a Student Limit per Room? The limit is 50 students logged in a one time.  You can have as many as you’d like throughout the day. Where are my Reports? Reports can be downloaded or emailed after you complete a Quiz.  You must be working on a laptop or desktop for the download function to work. You can also download or email reports by selecting “Manage Quizzes” from your teacher dashboard.  Then select the Reports tab to choose the activity.

  9. Assessment Freshman Seminar Students: (Came to Classroom) 2012-2013: 31 2013-2014: 427 Total number of Freshman who completed activity: 1254 out of 1701 74% of incoming class

  10. Assessment Average Score: 85.9% (of those who fully completed project) Average Score: 83.8% (Everyone) *9 gradable clues/questions

  11. Issues • Socrative Update • Having to go back and forth between apps/websites • Verbiage of specific questions • Socrative – brain freezes? aka skipped questions

  12. Highlights • Great Collaboration across campus • Great word of mouth among instructors • Students were excited to use the equipment / no lectures! • Great participation numbers
