  1. Something Upstairs By Avi

  2. Plot • When Kenny moves into a new house, one with a very old history, he doesn’t expect to meet the ghost of a slave murdered over 200 years ago; but he does. Kenny learns the only way to help the ghost is to go back into time and find the slave’s killer. The catch is, if anything goes wrong, Kenny won’t be able to get back…

  3. Characters • Kenny- The boy from our time. • Caleb- Slave Ghost. • Pardon Willinghast- Town librarian/ historian.

  4. Conflict • Caleb cannot end his misery as a ghost unless someone is able to change his past and keep him from being murdered.

  5. Climax • Kenny finally figures out what he has to do to save Caleb, but it poses great danger to himself.

  6. Genre • This book is a very good cross between a ghost story, an adventure, and historical fiction. • Or is it?

  7. Interesting Facts • The book takes place in Providence, Rhode Island • Caleb and Kenny are about the same age • And…

  8. Interesting Facts • It is a true story!! • Seriously, the boy, Kenny Huldorf, is a real person and he told this story to Avi. Both believe it is real. • The characters are all real people; you can even look it up in a history book.

  9. Rating • I would give this book 4 stars out of 5 because it is interesting and it combines genres well.
