Ministry Reporting for Semester 1 • We will be reporting to the Ministry on behalf of the TCDSB on Thursday, February 14th with the following information: • End of semester 1 student numbers • Beginning of semester 2 student numbers • Credits attempted for both semesters • Credits achieved for semester 1 • Identification of students with an IEP • CLA Implementation Plan (new this year!)

  6. Updating Trillium • Please update your assigned SHSM student participants in Trillium by Tuesday, February 12th • This includes: • Demitting students no longer participating in the program (please print the SHSM Student Record Card prior to demitting a student; for Record Card Paper please email catherine.moynihan@tcdsb.org ) • Adding students in grade 11 or 12 who are new participants

  7. Ministry CLA Interim Report • Ministry requesting information about the delivery of CLAs in each SHSM program • Hard copy provided, electronic copy will be emailed • Please complete & email it back by Tuesday, February 12thtotobin.walsh@tcdsb.org • A follow-up report regarding CLA implementation and delivery will be required from each SHSM program in June

Other Required Courses • Varies from sector to sector • Typically there are 3 other required courses: • Math • English • Other Required in either grade 11 or grade 12 (i.e. Business, Science, Social Science) • Contextualized Learning Activity (CLA) must be delivered in each of the other required courses • Always refer to the sector guide (binder or www.ontario.ca/SHSM ) to determine which grade level each other required course is in

Co-op Course Linkage SHSM students must have their cooperative education credits linked to a credit within the bundle. • Linked to one of the major courses • Linked to the “other required credit” – refer to sector guideline • If the student is taking coop in 1st semester of grade 11 or the summer before grade 11, it can be linked to GLC 2O3 if necessary

Co-op Course Linkage cont’d Please avoid: • Linking co-op to a course the student has not taken or is not concurrently taking • Linking co-op to a course the student has failed • Linking co-op to a course that is not within in the bundle of credits (with the exception of GLC 2O3 if necessary)

  11. Co-op Options • Day School • Night School • Summer School • One credit at a time (i.e. one credit in the summer before grade 11, one credit the summer prior to grade 12)

General Reminders… • Grade 10 students should not be added to participation lists until they are in grade 11 • Certifications: • Ideally 1 – 2 each semester of the program • Must be inputted regularly in Trillium • Ministry is looking at certifications through ONSIS reporting to ensure funding is being appropriately assigned • Community service - a graduation requirement for everyone! • A Total Community Hourssummary report is now available under the Reports tab in DIP • A report can be generated for your school or the TCDSB • Multiple Grades can be selected in the Grade dropdown box • Drilldown to student listings in not available through this report

Marlies 5th Annual MLSE Career Forum • Tuesday, April 16th at 3pm at the Ricoh Coliseum • Students see the connections between a wide variety of economic sectors within a single organization – not to mention a ticket to the Marlies game that evening!  • We are inviting the following existing and proposed SHSM programs to participate:  Arts & Culture, Business, Health & Wellness, Hospitality, ICT and Sports • Please email tobin.walsh@tcdsb.org by Tuesday, March 5th with student numbers and we will purchase the tickets using central SHSM funds on your behalf • Please note that this is considered an out-of-school excursion and the appropriate excursion forms must be completed

  15. Recruiting • Approvals from the Ministry regarding the 18 applications that the TCDSB has submitted for new programs are still pending • Blessed Cardinal Newman’s portal site – an example of marketing at the school level for attracting students to their SHSM programs • Centrally, working with graphic designer to develop marketing materials (i.e. posters, banners, graduation plaque) for each economic sector
