  1. Algae and Biomass Briquettes

  2. Energy (Algae) • People say that Algae is the biofuel of the future. • But it isn’t as simple as getting the algae itself and putting it in our gas tanks. • Scientist have to use various mechanical and chemical methods. • Algae might be an end to using fossil flues.

  3. Benefits (Algae) • We don’t have to use crops such as palms to produce oil. • Algae grows almost anywhere. • Can reduce Carbon emissions depending on where it’s grown. • The extracts from the algae oil can be used as livestock feed and can be made into ethanol .

  4. Drawbacks (Algae) • There are a couple of disadvantages. • For one, this is a new technology. • Produces unstable biodiesel. • Biodiesel performs poorly compared to fossil fuels.

  5. Government plans (Algae) • The government pledged to invest up to $24 million to three research groups.

  6. Not number one fuel source? (algae) • One reason that algae is not our number one fuel source is that algae biofuel is still a new concept. • But in the future it might replace fossil fuels.

  7. Energy (BB) • Biomass briquettes will soon replace Coal, Natural Gases, Kerosene, Diesel, Lignite etc. • They are eco-friendly and renewable resources. • It is also cheaper than other fuels.

  8. Benefits (BB) • Biomass briquettes is a good substitute for coal since they are made of natural material. • Also because they do not put any pollution in the air like coal does. • Factories started using this product since they herd about its benefits.

  9. Disadvantages (BB) • The first and possibly the worst disadvantage to using biomass briquettes is that directly burning biomass as a fuel produces more greenhouse gasses that can be absorbed by the plants, making global warming worst.

  10. Government plans (BB) • As for our government, we really have any plans. • But it is available for factories. • In India, they are preparing to use biomass for their factories in 2012.

  11. Not number one fuel source? (BB) • The reason that Biomass Briquettes is not our number one fuel source is because it is still relatively new like algae. • But it still could replace Coal, Natural Gases, Kerosene, Diesel, Lignite etc.
