  2. PHYSiCAL & CHEMiCAL PROPERTiES • colorless • Has 4 isotopes • Inert gas ! • Tasteless • odorless

  3. 5 Facts about Nitrogen • Nitrogen gas (N2) makes up 78.1% of the volume of the Earth's air. • Nitrogen is a nonmetal • Nitrogen compounds are found in foods, fertilizers, poisons, and explosives. Your body is 3% nitrogen by weight. • Nitrogen is responsible for the orange-red, blue-green, blue-violet, and deep violet colors of the aurora. • Number of Protons/Electrons in Nitrogen : 7

  4. - - Health Effects • Nitrogen is absolutely essential to all living organisms. • Nitrogen is also used to make up nucleic acids which store an organism's genetic information. • . Nitrogen gas is not toxic, but, in principle, pure nitrogen could asphyxiate the body by denying it access to oxygen.

  5. iNTERESTiNG FACTS :) • Nitrogen gas makes up about 78% of the atmosphere on Earth but only 3% of the atmosphere on Mars. • The word "Nitrogen" means, "giving rise to niter."  Niter is a substance rich in Nitrogen, and was discovered before Nitrogen was.

  6. - -Where Nitrogen Was Used & Found ? • Nitrogen is a fairly common element in the Earth's crust. • .  Liquid nitrogen is used by the oil industry to build up pressure in wells to force crude oil upward.  • It is also possible to buy large containers of liquid nitrogen which can be used to freeze materials like food.
