  1. New Approach of InP Nanocrystal Synthesis Jiye Fang (SUNY at Binghamton) DMR 0731382 A Co-reduction colloidal method has been successfully developed for the synthesis of high-quality InP nanocrystals (NCs). Our result indicates that a post-treatment process with HF could greatly improve the photoluminescence efficiency of these NCs. The replacementof expensive or hazardous phosphorus sources, such astris(trimethylsilyl)phosphine, with a conventionalcompound, PCl3, makes the current synthetic approach appreciably greener and more economical. Furthermore, the extension of this synthetic approach to a general synthetic strategy of other III–V semiconductor systems shows great promise: We have succeeded in preparation of InAs and InSb NCs using AsCl3 and SbCl3 as the corres-ponding pnicogen sources. ** This work was recently published in Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. [47(19), 3540, 2008] and was highlighted as a “VIP” (Very Important Paper). IMAGES: Size-dependent colors of InP NCs synthesized via a recently developed co-reduction approach.

  2. New Approach of InP Nanocrystal SynthesisJiye Fang (SUNY at Binghamton) DMR 0731382 In this year, three undergraduate students (Dong, Martens and Mead) were involved in this project. They were trained by senior researchers in this lab, and they also par-ticipated the research activities in synthesis and various characterizations of low dimensional semiconductor materials under this study.Two of them extended their research career and joined the summer program as well. As a typical achievement from the summer interns of last year, a self-assembly work contributed by Mr. Chidi Ezeolu (co-author) was recently published in J. Am. Chem. Soc. [130(22)  6983-6991, (2008)]. As a performance of international collabora-tion, H. Zhang,as an exchange research scholar, joined our group from Lanzhou University (China) and has been working here for 12 months in this area.
