Part 1 – Traditional TA Site Experience • Student teaching assistant in the Office, Library, • Counseling Office, or the classroom. • Part 1, onsite location, is 40% of the student’s grade. • Part 2 – Online Learning Experience • Part 2, worth 60% of a student’s grade, is done entirely online • Watches and reads interactive content regarding issues on being a TA, professionalism while representing an employer, etc. • Completes assignments on job skills, business relationships, professionalism in the workplace • Assessments at the end of each week to check for understanding The New Business Procedures Class

Online Component • Uses Canvas Learning™ for online delivery; 16 weekly lessons. • Online component facilitated by a CTE Certified Business Education Teacher. • 60% of overall grade is based off assignments, discussions, journals, short quizzes which are all delivered online by a CTE certified Business Ed Teacher. • CTE Teachers issues final grade at end of semester; 60% from online class, 40% from final evaluation.

Who Benefits? • Students: • Fosters an environment which keeps students engaged and active while serving as a Teaching Assistant (TA) during downtime within the period/area they are serving. • Students gain valuable skills that will give them responsibility associated with their TA workplace. • CTE Department & Supported Programs: • Enhanced CTE dollars support CTE classrooms, district initiatives, technology programs, and CTE activities. • This program will also help retain staff, support current CTE activities, and bring in new revenue to support current/new CTE programs in the district.

  5. Potential Timeline • Second Semester --- 2011-2012 School Year • District CTE staff and business education teachers begin to develop/cater curriculum to each school. • First semester units finished before September 2012 • Second semester units finished before November 2012 • First Semester --- 2012-2013 School Year • Week #1 – students will attend a one-period presentation in a computer lab setting on how the online program works. • Week #2 – students begin the online portion of their Business Procedures class.

Semester 1 Lessons • Week 1 Chain of Command, Positive Work Environments • Week 2 Introductions and First Impression, Ethics • Week 3 Taking phone messages, confidentiality, copy machine, scanner • Week 4 Evaluation 1 due; Helping a guest teacher • Week 5 Use of Student Gmail • Week 6 Personal Hygiene, Office Ergonomics, Appropriate Attire • Week 7 Saving computer files, creating attractive documents • Week 8 Evaluation 2 due; Taking inventory, basic business math • Week 9 Employee absences, procrastination, managing time • Week 10 Google Docs – an overview • Week 11 Business Etiquette – dining & communicating with others. • Week 12 Evaluation 3; Composing a letter of request • Week 13 Taking initiative, organization, • Week 14 Research a career, salary, education requirements • Week 15 Non verbal/verbal communication, • Week 16 Evaluation 4; Parliamentary Procedures for business meetings • Final: Final reflection paper or TBA project

Semester 2 Lessons • Week 1 Syllabus & Teacher Expectations • Week 2 Introductions and Hand Shakes • Week 3 Confidentiality/F.E.R.P.A., TBA Activity • Week 4 Evaluation 1; Taking meeting minutes • Week 5 Google Spreadsheets – recordkeeping basics • Week 6 Business Ethics 101 or Host Teacher Tasks • Week 7 Google Presentations – business presentations • Week 8 Evaluation 2; • Week 9 Filing files, Making a website from Google Sites • Week 10 Characteristics and Organization of a business • Week 11 Teen and Washington State Work Laws • Week 13 Career exploration, resume development, cover letters • Week 14 Career exploration, resume development, cover letters #2 • Week 15 Positive Attitudes; Letter of Recommendation for self • Week 16 Evaluation 4; • Final: All Reflection Papers Due! • SEMESTER TWO LEESSONS ARE TENTATIVE
