  2. George Washington Carver was born in 1864 on a farm in Missouri • Had a mother and an older brother named Jim • He was a slave • He got sick a lot • People called him the plant doctor • His mother was stolen by slave robbers Early Life

  3. George went to Simpson College and Iowa State College He had to go to blacks only schools He graduated high school in 1884 at age 19 He was a professor at the Tusskee Institute Education

  4. George loved to work in the garden He liked to heal sick plants He liked to draw and paint flowers and plants He liked to invent things like ways to use peanuts Interests and Hobbies

  5. George was born into slavery He had to face racism He taught himself to read and paint He had to switch schools a lot because of racist rules Problems and Obstacles

  6. George knew more than the teachers He was hired to work at the college because he was so smart He found many ways to use peanuts! Like hand lotion, shampoo, glue, paint, laundry soap, and coffee and vinegar Accomplishments
