XRD Spectra of Unannealed FePt VSM : As Synthesized FePt (fcc) XRD Spectra of Annealed FePt VSM : Annealed FePt (fct) Summary: Synthesis of FePt nanoparticles. Composition (Fe32Pt58 to Fe60Pt40) and size control (3–8 nm) achieved by controlling reflux time and surfactant to reagent molar ratio. Crystal structure changes from fcc to fct upon annealing. Magnetic properties change from superparamagnetic to ferromagnetic upon annealing. Three graduate students have been supported by this grant: A. Singh, N. Parekh, and M. Kaur. This research is a collaborative effort between Chemical Engineering, Physics, and Biology NSF DMR 0514068 Kiumars Parvin, San Jose State University Foundation
