  1. Riga Technical UniversityDepartment of System Theory and DesignUsage of Multi-Agent Paradigm in Multi-Robot Systems Integration Assistant professor Egons Lavendelis egons.lavendelis@rtu.lv Riga, Latvia

  2. Multi-agent systems & Robotics research • Robotics research: • Multi-agent system based multi-robot system technology enabling the widely available stand alone robots to cooperatively accomplish large tasks • Wide experience in mobile robotics, including, highly mobile robotic platforms, their motion schema, general AI techniques and machine learning based control, high precision positioning sensors for laboratory use • Multi-agent research: • Agent oriented software engineering methodology MASITS and CASE tool • Practical multi-agent system applications • Multi-agent architectures, interaction protocols • Ontologies and their usage

  3. The project idea • Hard to integrate heterogeneous robotic systems and lack of reliable development frameworks • The general idea is to bring semantics based communications into embedded multi-robot control systems to enable automatic collaboration, teaming decision making as well as data and knowledge sharing among autonomous robotic systems • The aim of the project is to develop hardware and software solution turning regular mobile robotic systems into smart collaborative devices Plug&Playroboticdevices

  4. Multi-agent approach • Idea: to use multi-agent paradigm as a core technique for developing multi-robot system management software • The main role of agents at the management level is to represent robotic systems (physical agents) • Increases effectiveness of multi robot system management by • Tailoring heterogeneity and complexity of physical entities • Modelling of future operation scenarios • Behaviour optimization of the system • Higher usability from end-user view point
